Mobile Golf Application from Summus and ZIO Interactive Lets Verizon
Wireless Customers Get It Now
RALEIGH, NC - September 23, 2002 - Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest
wireless carrier and the leader in mobile data, and Summus, Inc. (USA)
(OTCBB: SUMU), a leader in the development of efficient information
processing solutions for mobile and wireless devices, today announced that
ZIO Interactive's Ultimate Golf ChallengeTM mobile game is available to
Verizon Wireless subscribers through Verizon Wireless' Get It NowSM
service - a new service that helps customers Get Games to stay entertained
when waiting in line, personalize their take-everywhere accessory when they
Get Tones, and do their work more efficiently when they Get Going.
Ultimate Golf Challenge, distributed in North America by Summus, allows
customers of any handicap to experience the challenges of skill and
decision-making faced on a real 18-hole golf course. The game allows Verizon
Wireless Get It Now customers to negotiate around trees, sand traps and
slopes of the green and even deal with face wind conditions. Players are
given the option to select the correct club, determine how hard to hit the
ball and choose to add a fade or a draw. The game's features add up to a
great playing experience that is not only fun and easy to learn, but also a
challenge to master.
Ultimate Golf Challenge is available on the Verizon Wireless Z-800 and other
select Get It Now phones. Subscribers simply go the Get It Now shop on
their wireless phone and select Get Games - customers have the option to try
a two-minute demo prior to purchase or to purchase a subscription for $1.49
per month. To curb the appetite of golf addicts, Verizon Wireless also
offers an unlimited use of Ultimate Golf Challenge for $4.99.
"We expect that Ultimate Golf Challenge will attract a substantial number of
mobile users who don't always have the time to hit the links on a real
course, but still want to 'tee up' on the fly," said Bjorn Jawerth, CEO of
Summus. "Summus' BlueFuelT platform, combined with ZIO Interactive's
innovative gaming technologies, provides golf enthusiasts with a chance to a
play challenging, easy-to-learn golf game on mobile devices."
Ultimate Golf Challenge is the second ZIO/Summus gaming application to be
offered on the Verizon Wireless Get It Now service following Summus and ZIO
Interactive's previously released Nineball. BlueFuel is an architecture
designed by Summus to optimize the processing of multimedia and data over
wireless networks and to ensure an exceptional experience for the end-user.
Application developers and content providers partner with Summus to build
BlueFuel-powered applications for today's mobile resource-constrained
environments.
