Wmode and TELUS Mobility to Provide Premium Wireless Web Content
Wireless Users to Access News, Entertainment, Games, Ringtones and More From Content Providers Linked to Wmode's ClearMode(TM) Clearinghouse
CALGARY, Canada, Sep 30, 2002 - Wmode, the creator of ClearMode(TM), the first wireless clearinghouse
serving the worldwide mobile commerce market, announced today it is working with national wireless carrier TELUS Mobility to increase the
range of premium wireless Web content choices available to TELUS Mobility clients across Canada.
The content, which includes news and sports information, games, travel data, ringtones and more, comes from the Content Provider Members of
Wmode's ClearMode Clearinghouse. Wmode's Content Member program is a flexible and open method for monetizing wireless applications and
services, as well as connecting content providers to wireless carrier-billing systems. Currently, there are more than 60 ClearMode Content
Provider Members offering hundreds of wireless applications, including Galileo, allAfrica.com, eGolfScore and Me43.
Wmode will provide TELUS Mobility with the opportunity to give its clients access to all Wmode Content Provider Members. When a TELUS
Mobility client makes a purchase, ClearMode will create a billing record and forward it to TELUS Mobility. The charge will then be placed on the
client's monthly phone bill.
"This alliance represents a dramatic expansion of the wealth of online content choices already available to our clients across Canada," said Robert
Blumenthal, TELUS Mobility's vice president of products and services. "Wmode's straightforward and practical approach to linking wireless
carriers with premium content providers made them our obvious choice."
ClearMode is a real-time, secure and effective method for managing subscriptions to premium content. When a user chooses to download an
application or subscribe to a service, ClearMode authenticates the user and validates the transaction at the point of purchase. ClearMode creates
transaction records, which are sent to the carrier for inclusion on the purchaser's phone bill (the "Bill-To-Phone(TM)" payment model), as well as
settlement records that identify the revenue split between the carrier and the content provider.
"TELUS Mobility's selection of ClearMode and its Bill-To-Phone payment model is another clear indication that Wmode has what the wireless
industry needs," said Dennis Woronuk, Wmode's president and COO. "By making it easy for carriers, content providers and customers to get
together, ClearMode represents the next step forward in the development of the Wireless Web."
