Customized, Real-World Enterprise Solutions on Motorola Mobile Phones Gaining Momentum
Companies Increase Productivity Using Java Applications Currently Deployed On Motorola iDEN phones
ORLANDO, Fla., Oct 7, 2002 - Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today unveiled customized, real-world
enterprise solutions being used by several companies during the Gartner Symposium/ITx-po 2002 in Orlando, Florida (Booth #416). These include sales
force applications developed by mPortal in use by Fortune 500 companies, a mobile dispatch application developed by JumpStart Wireless(TM)
Corporation for Garrison Square Management, and a wireless invoicing solution developed by Intrinsic Systems for Cummins Inc.
"Motorola is demonstrating how companies can increase productivity, save money, and leverage the power of our Java(TM) technology-enabled
handsets using solutions deployed on Motorola iDEN(R) phones," said Peter Aloumanis, vice president and general manager, U.S. Markets Division,
Motorola's iDEN Subscriber Group. "These real-world examples of how enterprises are using customized solutions prove that the possibilities for
wireless applications are limited only by the entrepreneurial spirit and creativity of the 3 million Java developers worldwide."
mPortal, a leading edge wireless solutions company, has deployed a variety of enterprise wireless solutions to customers globally. mPortal's solutions
include a wireless field force solution enabling field technicians to access and update critical customer data while on the road, potentially increasing
productivity and customer satisfaction. The solutions run through the mPortal Enterprise Everywhere(TM) mobile application platform to the
customer's existing back-end systems, leveraging existing applications and infrastructure.
"mPortal's wireless solutions provide the same basic benefits across our customer base -- the ability to position themselves as efficient, cost-
conscious, customer-driven companies, driving up customer and employee satisfaction and driving down costs," said D.P. Venkatesh, chief executive
officer of mPortal Inc.
JumpStart Wireless Corporation has developed DispatchSuite(TM), an innovative dispatching and work order management application that brings the
power and productivity of wireless Internet communication through standard handheld devices such as PDAs, pagers and mobile phones to
businesses of any size in a wide range of industries with extensive field service operations.
Garrison Square Management, a premier real estate management, investment and development company responsible for more than 1,500 residential
units in downtown Boston, uses DispatchSuite to improve the productivity of its field service personnel by automating the costly, time-consuming and
paper-intensive processes required to file field staff reports. Using DispatchSuite, Garrison Square property managers have significantly improved their
response time and customer service by keeping track of their staff's daily progress more efficiently and easily than their old paper-based procedure.
They can now provide invoices to clients almost immediately upon completion of the work orders. This also gives the back office a much clearer view
of where the workers are in the process without having to constantly call the field crews.
"The most important impact of our use of DispatchSuite is the greater efficiency in our entire work order process, from start to finish," said Denise
Moreau, manager of finance and administration, Garrison Square Management. "Our clients are very happy because they're seeing faster turnaround
and they're able to receive much more accurate information about the status of a job."
Intrinsic Systems has developed "5 Phones in a Box", a wireless invoicing solution that has been successfully piloted on a national scale with Cummins
Inc. (Nasdaq: CUM), a producer of diesel engines and associated products. The two companies recently announced a national deployment plan for
field technicians using Motorola iDEN handsets. The application allows service industries the benefits of wireless invoicing directly from a job site.
Instant invoicing helps to eliminate float costs, improve invoice accuracy, speed billing cycles, and also provides an in-field time clock for mobile
workers.
"Time lost in the billing cycle is money lost to our business," said Rod Stohler, vice president, operations, Cummins Southeastern Power, Inc. "This
easy-to-use application speeds our billing cycle, lowering our billing costs. Now, we can get time-critical invoice, productivity and management
information directly from the field so that we manage our work more effectively."
