VertigoXmedia Collaborates With Major Broadcast Technology Companies to Re-Launch NY1

URL(s): http://ny1.com

MONTREAL, Jan 28, 2002 -- VertigoXmedia, ( www.vertigoxmedia.com), a leading provider of content automation and graphics solutions for broadcast television, the Internet, interactive TV (iTV), and wireless devices, today announced that it has collaborated with three major broadcasting technology companies to re-launch NY1 News on Monday, January 28, 2002. NY1 News is the first of Time Warner Cable's six new 24-hour local news channels to implement the new digital technology, which streamlines newsroom operations down to a single platform. Time Warner Cable owns and manages the most advanced cable television operations in the country and has a reach of more than 12.7 million customers.

VertigoXmedia's "Producer On Air" Suite is involved in every step of the content automation process, offering a complete set of applications for automatically creating, controlling and managing content across multiple media channels. Its Template Builder allowed Time Warner Cable designers to create sophisticated graphics styles that could be quickly and easily applied at each individual facility; the Graphic Builder module was integrated into Associated Press' Electronic News Production System (ENPS) via the Omnibus Automation System Desktop Control, allowing journalists to recall pre-made templates and insert relevant text. Used in conjunction with Omnibus and Pinnacle's systems, VertigoXmedia's graphic pages can now be automatically updated with up-to-the-second information coming from live data feeds, such as financial data, breaking headlines and weather alerts. The resulting graphic pages are then assembled into playlists to be sent to air with VertigoXmedia's Playout Manager.

"Time Warner Cable's re-launch of NY1 establishes a new benchmark for innovation in news production. We are very pleased to have our 'Producer On Air' suite of products play a role in the realization of this ultra-modern facility and look forward to having our technology be the standard for other newsroom systems in the future," states Roi Agneta, COO of VertigoXmedia.

"Time Warner Cable has always striven to make technology invisible to journalists so that they can produce a better news product. By using VertigoXmedia's 'Producer On Air' integrated with Associated Press' ENPS, Pinnacle, and Omnibus systems, producers and journalists are now able to create better news content via WYSIWYG templates from the Vertigo Graphic Builder. They can also search for all of the images on our database and insert them into those templates and can also select names of anchors and political officials, for example, from a pick list that reduces spelling errors. Additionally, producers and journalists now have the ability to insert information from data feeds into the final output via commands inserted in the ENPS rundown," states Harlan Neugeboren, Senior Director of Engineering and Technology for Time Warner Cable.
