-- Firms Partner to Deliver Software and Content to Orange SPV Users
LONDON, Oct 22, 2002 - Orange SA, one of the world's leading mobile communications companies, and
Handango, the leading publisher and platform for mobile software, today announced the availability of the Orange SPV Software Store at
www.handango.com/orange and mobile.handango.com/orange on the Orange SPV -- one of the most powerful mobile phones available in
Europe. Orange is the first mobile operator to ship handsets using the Microsoft Smartphone software, and the storefront is the first site on the
Web to offer Smartphone applications. The storefront is built using Handango AMPP, Handango's market-leading application management and
provisioning platform.
At the storefront, Orange SPV users can try, purchase and download applications ranging from productivity-boosting applications to full-color
games. Users can also access other digital media including ringtones and graphics that leverage the SPV's built-in speaker and hi-resolution display.
Applications featured on the storefront have passed strict certification requirements and can be downloaded directly to the SPV over-the-air
anytime, anywhere.
Microsoft Smartphone software provides a rich data platform for mobile developers and operators to build compelling mobile data applications
and services. Mobile phones built on Microsoft Windows for Smartphone combine fully integrated voice and data capabilities with a rich set of
applications including personal information management (PIM), gaming and multimedia features in a small, lightweight mobile phone form factor.
Mark Spain, director for Mobile Devices at Microsoft Corp said: "Our Mobile2Market program has been designed to accelerate the mobile
ecosystem and create new revenue opportunities for developers supporting Windows Powered mobile devices. Through the Orange SPV
Software Store at www.handango.com/orange , Handango and Orange are truly taking full advantage of the program, ensuring the certification
and market delivery of network- ready wireless applications for its Windows Powered Smartphone customers."
Laura Rippy, chief executive officer of Handango said: "Orange is an amazing innovator in the mobile data marketplace. They are the first to market
a phone using the Smartphone operating system and the first to market with applications for Smartphone users. We are thrilled that they have
chosen Handango AMPP to provide applications to their customers."
Pete Ford, Head of Device Strategy and Category Development for the Orange group, said: "We chose Handango AMPP because it's a proven
platform with three years of commercial deployment. Their experience means we can offer our customers the latest services and applications for the
SPV."
Handango will host and maintain the Orange SPV Software Store and submit applications to Orange for inclusion in the storefront. The two firms
will engage in joint marketing and demand generation activities promoting the availability of Smartphone applications to Orange customers.
