Infineon joins Symbian's Platinum Partner Program to accelerate introduction of multi-media features into mobile phones

Munich, Germany, October 22, 2002 - Infineon Technologies (FSE/NYSE: IFX) a leading supplier of integrated circuits and system solutions for mobile phones today announced that it has joined Symbian's Platinum Partner Program as a Semicon-ductor Partner to support the trend from voice-only to feature-rich open platform mobile phones. Infineon will port Symbian OS (operating system) to its GOLD product family of GPRS/EDGE/UMTS baseband modem and application processors and, thus, will offer tailored technology solutions for mobile multimedia applications. One in two GSM cell phones now contains an Infineon chip.

The Infineon GOLD product family, optimized for multimedia and data-enabled applications, is an ideal solution for open platform mobile phones combining multiple technologies including mobile data communication and computing, multimedia messaging, entertainment and gaming. Symbian OS licensees are the world's leading phone manufacturers who shipped more than 70 percent of all mobile phones in 2001.

"We are pleased to work closely with Symbian in support of open platform mobile smartphones," said Karl Lange, Vice President and General Manager Customized Wireless Solutions at Infineon Technologies. "Both Symbian OS licensees and Infineon customers designing Symbian OS mobile phones will benefit from accelerated time-to-market from our cooperation."

"Infineon brings to the Symbian community a wealth of experience in developing silicon solutions for the mobile market," said Gilles Allain, VP Partnerships and Alliances. "We are delighted to welcome them as a partner to our semiconductor program."

Symbian Platinum Partner Program members benefit from a range of Symbian products and services allowing them to design highly integrated hardware and software solutions for Symbian OS. The commercial services available to Symbian Platinum Partners include technical support and joint marketing opportunities. Symbian Platinum Partners will also get early access to the Symbian OS Develop-ment Kit™ which incorporates source code, test code, internal documentation, kernel and device driver programming interfaces and ROM building tools.

Availability

A first port of the Symbian OS v 7.0 to Infineon products is scheduled for Q4, 2002.
