MapInfo and Red Hen Systems Deliver First-in-Class Multimedia Mapping & Location-Based Intelligence Solution
TROY, NEW YORK, Oct 23, 2002 - MediaMapper ELITE Changes the Purpose and Role Maps Serve in the
Defense and Intelligence Communities
MapInfo (Nasdaq: MAPS) and strategic partner Red Hen Systems jointly announced today the release of MediaMapper ELITE, the only available
technology that enables location-based video and digital still imagery to be automatically embedded into mapping applications. Reconnaissance,
surveillance and damage assessment missions compile extensive amounts of imagery-based intelligence that support military planning, homeland
defense, emergency response and counterterrorism. MediaMapper ELITE is built on MapInfo MapX(R), a tool that enables developers to add
mapping functionality easily and cost-effectively to any application using standard programming languages.
Developed in conjunction with the Department of Defense, MediaMapper ELITE solves the historical "missing link" problem between multimedia
and GIS, giving an interactive dimension to a traditionally static GIS environment. MediaMapper ELITE is offered as a free upgrade to all existing
DoD MediaMapper users and comes with pre-validated release codes to accelerate field deployment.
"In the past year, government organizations have dedicated tremendous energy to homeland security initiatives, and location-based intelligence has
proven to be a cornerstone for effectively improving response and recovery in emergency situations," said Brian Lantz, vice president and advisor,
homeland security and continuity issues, MapInfo. "With MediaMapper ELITE, MapInfo and Red Hen are extending their long-standing
partnership by offering a more robust solution that addresses the unique needs of various government agencies, especially in homeland security."
"The introduction of MediaMapper ELITE further demonstrates the depth of Red Hen Systems and MapInfo's ongoing partnership and
commitment to providing clarity and preparedness to government organizations in an ever-changing global environment," said Jim Baker, CEO of
Red Hen Systems. "With the global threats facing our nation, there is a greater demand for faster, more detailed and usable intelligence. As a result,
we are honing our efforts to create the next generation of mapping solutions that specifically address the needs of the U.S. military. Together Red
Hen and MapInfo can now empower military customers to better plan and defend against or prevent an emergency."
Additional Information About MediaMapper ELITE
Red Hen's technology supports digital still pictures, streaming video, audio narration and GPS data in virtually any file format with no limits on the
number of files. The powerful and newly developed Map Manager module allows individual map layers to be grouped into predefined zoom levels
with the option of caching data locally. Users now have a seamless and efficient way to index, catalog and manage multiple map types. To meet the
growing needs of military applications, MediaMapper ELITE supports CADRG (Compressed Arc Digital Raster Graph) and CIB (Controlled
Image Base) background data types.
