Extended Systems Builds Mobile Application, Licenses Software to City of Toronto

BOISE, IDAHO, Oct 24, 2002 - Extended Systems Develops Mobile Restaurant Inspection Application, Provides Mobile Solutions Platform to City of Toronto IT Administrators

Extended Systems (Nasdaq:XTND), a leading provider of mobile information management solutions for the enterprise, today announced that the City of Toronto Public Health Department has selected Extended Systems to develop a mobile restaurant inspection application, provide the mobile solutions platform on which it will run, and advise public health IT administrators on mobile implementation and roll out.

"As a growing city of 2.5 million, it was becoming crucial for Toronto's Public Health Department to find a way to speed up the process of restaurant inspection and the distribution of grade ratings to consumers," said Extended Systems' Professional Services Director Lalit Canaran. "What we've built not only speeds up the process, it replaces the current paper-based forms and provides wireless communications for queries and updating of inspection results."

In addition to licensing the company's mobile solutions platform, the City of Toronto enlisted Extended Systems' Professional Services staff to mobilize the existing THEIS (Toronto Healthy Environment Information System) application used by the City for Public Health inspections of restaurants and other related businesses. The application, which provides secure wireless communications with the City of Toronto network, via a commercial cellular network, will be used by inspectors in the field to perform work management and physical inspection data collection tasks remotely.
