NSI Global's GlobalWave MT2000 Satellite Data Communication Terminals on Duty in Afghanistan

MONTREAL, CANADA, Oct 24, 2002 - * Initial 165 terminals being supplied by NSI Global's value-added reseller, CorpTen International, to Titan Systems for deployment by the U.S. Department of Defense

* Terminals used to track rail shipments from Germany to Afghanistan to ensure cargo security

* Additional units may be ordered in the near future

NSI Global Inc. (TSX: NGL), a global supplier of satellite-based communications systems, today announced that its Vistar Datacom division is supplying GlobalWave(R) MT2000 satellite data communication terminals for use by the U.S. Department of Defense in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

The initial 165 GlobalWave units are being used by the U.S. Army and Air Force for tracking supply convoys or containers being shipped from Germany to Afghanistan on rail cars. Additional units may be ordered in the near future depending upon the supply requirements of Operation Enduring Freedom.

The MT2000 terminals are being supplied by NSI Global's value-added reseller, Corp Ten International, to Titan Systems for deployment by the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD). Network services are being provided by DataStar, NSI's Regional Operator of the GlobalWave system for the Middle East.

The GlobalWave system permits two-way, satellite-based data communications in real time to track and manage various fixed and mobile assets, such as trucks, trailers, oil and gas pipeline and wellhead facilities, chemical storage tanks, and intermodal containers. The system also supports Homeland Security concerns, giving shippers and carriers of hazardous materials and other dangerous goods the ability to increase security and reduce risk by tracking shipments covertly and without driver involvement.

The GlobalWave technology was selected by DOD for use in cargo security for several reasons, including its durability and flexibility and its reliance on satellite technology, which was required for complete coverage over the geographic distances covered by the supply convoys.

Battery life was also of critical importance. GlobalWave's power management capability (up to three years without recharging or connection to a power source) met the stringent criteria of the DOD specifications.

"This is one of several opportunities that have recently opened up for NSI to bring the best narrow band satellite technology to DOD," stated Zvi Huber, General Manager of Vistar Datacom and Vice President of NSI Global. "When deploying to such critical applications, the product and service just have to work and with thousands of units installed and performing on trucks and trailers already, we know we can continue to gain DOD's confidence. The size, features and reliability of the product represent an excellent fit with DOD needs and we are proud to have been selected for this important task."

The GlobalWave MT2000 terminals represent the smallest, most-powerful satellite communications product available, and are capable of performing a number of functions, including transmitting information on volume, temperature, pressure, and voltage; producing reports on location and speed; and triggering alarms when sensor thresholds are exceeded. Because GlobalWave provides two-way communication capabilities, a query (poll) can be sent to the asset requesting its current status and an immediate response will be provided. Environmentally sealed and fully tested to withstand shock, vibration, high-pressure wash, and other harsh environmental conditions, the MT2000 can operate for several years on batteries or use any source of vehicle power using its smart power management system.
