NMS Communications Puts TimesTen Inside Innovative Wireless Services Platform

NMS HearSay -- Voice Services System for Operators -- Gains Efficiency, Performance, Scalability Using TimesTen's Real-Time Event Processing System

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Oct 28, 2002 - TimesTen, Inc. today announced that NMS Communications (Nasdaq:NMSS), a leading supplier of technology for tomorrow's networks, has made the TimesTen(R) Real-Time Event Processing System an integral part of the NMS HearSay(TM) voice services solution. Wireless applications deployed on NMS HearSay will use TimesTen to track real-time status and resource usage, including session management and call detail record (CDR) data, required to accurately bill for services.

NMS HearSay is an open, ready-to-deploy solution that enables operators to rapidly and cost-effectively offer their subscribers multimodal voice and data services such as short message service (SMS), location-based services (LBS), unified communications and instant conferencing. By integrating applications and technology from industry leaders, NMS HearSay spares service providers and operators the significant burden of identifying and then ensuring that these hardware and software products are ready for deployment in "live" network environments. And unlike most solutions that offer only a single application, NMS HearSay supports multiple applications from multiple vendors.

TimesTen's unique and proven architecture provides exceptional performance and CPU efficiencies for data-intensive applications - completely through industry-standard interfaces. As a result, service providers and operators can provide the latest revenue-generating voice and data services, faster and at a lower cost, resulting in:

-- Increased average revenue per user (ARPU) -- Increased customer retention -- Lower capital and operating costs -- Rapid delivery of new services to market "NMS HearSay is capable of supporting hundreds to millions of subscribers," said Brian Demers, vice president and general manager of NMS' network solutions group. "To do this, and provide a cost-effective solution to our customers, we needed solid event processing capabilities on which to base our designs. TimesTen's real-time event processing system met our criteria -- both in terms of functionality and stability. It just works."

"Platforms that combine the power of presence, location, and messaging in one cost-effective solution are behind the delivery of innovative, revenue-generating services," said John Trembley, director of telecom and networking at TimesTen, Inc. "Leading solutions like NMS HearSay are designed from the ground up to handle the massive message volumes and scalability requirements of sophisticated services like SMS and LBS. By building on TimesTen, NMS is able to reduce its time to market and deliver a carrier-grade, cost-effective solution."
