Handmark and SplashData Announce Relationship to Market Software for Palm OS Handhelds
KANSAS CITY, Mo., and SEATTLE, Oct 28, 2002 - Handmark, the leading developer and publisher of PDA
(Personal Digital Assistant) software, and SplashData, the leading developer of virtual wallet applications for Palm OS handhelds, today announced
their relationship to bring SplashData's popular Wallet applications to retail. Handmark is the category leader in offering CD-ROM, expansion
media (Secure Digital(TM)/MultiMediaCard(TM)), and online downloadable content and applications for PDAs. Under the terms of the
agreement, Handmark has exclusive retail distribution rights for the Handmark branded SplashData titles, and SplashData will continue to offer the
SplashData branded products online.
The first two products, PDA Wallet and PDA Photo are now shipping to retail stores in the United States and Canada. According to Handmark
marketing vice president, Doug Edwards, "This is a superb suite of applications that should be on every Palm OS PDA. I use PDA Safe ID on my
handheld and desktop every day, and there's never been an easier or better way to share images on your Palm OS handheld than with PDA
Photo."
About PDA Wallet & MultiMediaCard bundle.
The new Handmark PDA Photo is an updated and re-branded version of the popular SplashPhoto. This easy-to-use desktop to PDA application
is SplashData's best-selling image viewer for Palm OS handhelds. PDA Photo now includes support for ARM-based Palm OS5 handhelds (like
the Palm Tungsten T and Sony Clie NX70), high-resolution displays (such as the Palm Tungsten and Sony Clie), 12-bit displays (such as the Palm
m130 and Handspring Treo) and viewing of JPEG images stored on external memory cards. PDA Photo is also available in a bundle with a blank
SanDisk(R) 4MB MMC storage card, called PDA Photo Album, making it easy to store and carry photos and other images.
PDA Photo displays digital images on a handheld as thumbnails, full screen images or in a slide show. Images may be cropped, enhanced and
installed on the handheld using PDA Photo Desktop, a desktop image editor for Windows and Mac OS. JPEG images may also be viewed
directly from external memory cards, such as the Palm SD/MMC expansion card or Sony Clie Memory Stick. PDA Photo supports virtually all
black/white and color Palm OS handhelds from Palm, Handspring, Sony, Kyocera, Samsung and others. Images may be displayed on standard
resolution (160x160), high-resolution (320x320) and high-resolution + (320x480) devices in 16-bit color, 12-bit color, 8-bit color or 4-bit
grayscale.
"The proliferation of color handhelds available on the market today has made image viewing a 'must-have' application," said John Chaffee,
President of SplashData. "PDA Photo's support for virtually all Palm OS handheld models, high resolution displays, JPEG viewing, and VFS
external memory cards, make it the natural choice for any handheld user who is looking for a fast, easy to use, high quality image viewer at an
affordable price."
PDA Wallet is based on SplashData's best selling integrated suite of virtual wallet applications. The PDA Wallet includes PDA Safe ID for
securely storing personal identification information; PDA Photo simplifies viewing wallet-sized photos of friends and family; and PDA Money
manages checking, credit and debit cards, and other expenses. PDA Money features an option to automatically upload transactions to the
Windows(R) desktop version of the Intuit Quicken(R) application. The retail package also includes a special half-price bonus offer for PDA
Shopping Lists - the ultimate shopping list manager.
Availability of retail product
Retail packages are available now in retail stores. PDA Photo (including the external storage MultiMediaCard(TM)) is being offered through
selected retailers for $29.99; PDA Wallet is being offered for $29.99 (USA estimated retail price) at most stores that also sell Palm OS based
PDA handhelds, including many campus bookstores across North America.
The PDA Wallet applications, including PDA Photo, are also available as an online download from the Handmark web site,
