PointBase Delivers Localized Relational Database Products for Japan Mobile Device Market
Japanese Versions Will Be Embedded in Enterprise Mobility Applications for Cell Phones and Other Mobile Devices
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Oct 28, 2002 - PointBase(R), Inc., the leader in Java(TM) database products for managing
and synchronizing enterprise data on all platforms, today announced the release of a fully localized version of its family of relational database and
synchronization products for the Japanese market. The products will be distributed by NEC Soft Ltd. (TSE:4774), a subsidiary of the NEC
Group, under an agreement signed in May.
"PointBase is showing their commitment to building the wireless market in Japan," said Koki Ikeda, NEC Soft senior manager of the Product and
Service Planning Department. "Not only does this product release further strengthen the partnership between our two companies, but it presents a
significant opportunity for mobile and wireless application development in Japan using PointBase products. Providing localized versions of their
products reflects PointBase's deep understanding of the mobile device market in Japan and our shared belief that both our companies will benefit
greatly as that market continues to grow."
NEC Soft, a subsidiary of NEC Solutions, makes full use of its sophisticated technological capabilities and system integration know-how to offer
advanced optimum solutions developed with a global perspective. Backed by the comprehensive capabilities of the NEC Group, NEC Soft creates

Since signing the agreement this spring, NEC Soft has a dedicated staff and resources to offer PointBase's full line of database and synchronization
products throughout Japan. The agreement also allows NEC Soft, with one of the largest system integration organizations in Japan, to embed
PointBase products in the development of end user applications.
"PointBase pioneered Java-based data management targeting the mobility and wireless markets, anticipating the need for cross-platform
portability," said Bruce Scott, PointBase founder and CEO. "We believe that the next wave of enterprise application development will be on
handheld devices and is already taking place in Japan, where cell phones in particular are far more powerful and popular than in the United States.
PointBase is very excited to be working with NEC Soft to grow this market."
