Agreement allows Sun SEAME to resell the Pixo Mobile Download Server for provisioning wireless Java applications
SAN JOSE, Calif., October 25, 2002 - Pixo, Inc. (www.pixo.com), a leading provider of wireless provisioning software, today announced reseller agreement with Sun Microsystems under which Sun SEAME (Southern Europe, Africa & Middle East) will resell the Pixo Mobile Download Server (MDS).
Pixo Mobile Download System (MDS) is high performance server software that allows operators to manage the complexity of delivering wireless content and Java applications over the air (OTA) to their subscribers.
"Wireless Java provisioning systems, like Pixo's Mobile Download Server, are a key part of the solution operators need to generate increased data ARPU today. We are pleased to be working with Pixo to accelerate the adoption of wireless Java," said Claudio Condini, Wireless Practice manager, Sun Professional Services SEAME.
"Sun's experience and leadership with wireless Java has created a big opportunity in the wireless data market," said Mark Grandcolas, Vice President of Strategic Alliances at Pixo. "By signing this agreement, Pixo offers Sun the possibility to provide a comprehensive solution to operators."
The Pixo Mobile Download Server is the only provisioning solution to combine full functionality, high performance and support for distributed downloading. With distributed downloading, operators can configure multiple Vending Managers (i.e. "Vending Machines") to integrate with a central, backend warehouse of listed and published content through the Catalog Manager. The Catalog Manager handles all the application workflow, developer submissions, wholesale costing and listing of content. Each Vending Manager can set its own rules for configuring local, market specific retail pricing and presentation. This distributed downloading architecture is easier to manage & integrate, offers more flexible deployment options, and lowers overall content management costs.
Wireless operators around the world are evaluating and planning the launch of wireless Java services as a means to generate new revenue. This reseller agreement will simplify the deployment of such services for wireless operators.
