Spotwave launches SpotCell(TM) 111 and SpotCell(TM) 112

New products provide "always on" in-building coverage for wireless PCS devices

OTTAWA, Canada, Oct 29, 2002 - Spotwave Wireless Inc., a wireless technology company solving the in-building reception problems common to users of wireless voice and data services, today announced the commercial availability of SpotCell 111 for GSM and TDMA networks and SpotCell 112 for CDMA networks, operating in the PCS (Personal Communications Services) 1900 MHz frequency band.

With carriers rapidly expanding the wireless data services they offer, the need for in-building wireless coverage has become even more critical. As users begin to rely more and more on handheld wireless devices to send and receive data, the demand for consistent coverage for products operating in the PCS 1900 MHz band increases. Mobile workers who move around the enterprise, global business people who often are away from their base location, and people whose workplace alternates between home and office all want to be able to bring their handheld wireless devices with them as they move around. These data-savvy consumers will not tolerate dead zones in buildings or inconsistent reception in a home-based office.

"With the recent launch of wireless data services by carriers, there has been even more demand by business users for reliable, consistent, in-building wireless coverage," said Shane Young, president & CEO, Spotwave Wireless Inc. "SpotCell 111 and SpotCell 112 provide carriers with the means to offer these customers more accessibility and greater coverage for their handheld wireless devices such as PDAs, pocket PCs, and mobile phones with data storage and transfer capabilities."

Carriers recognize that good coverage is essential for customer satisfaction and retention. Spotwave provides carriers with a reliable suite of products that virtually eliminate in-building wireless dead zones. Spotwave's technology is transparent to the network, highly cost-effective compared to existing approaches, and doesn't require any engineering expertise to install and maintain. Seven out of the top eight wireless carriers in North America have purchased SpotCell products to provide their customers with superior service.

AML Communications, the premier Rogers AT&T Wireless dealer in Atlantic Canada, recognizes the value of SpotCell in growing customer relations. AML deployed a SpotCell at a CanJet aircraft repair facility, leading CanJet to expand their business with AML.

"Using wireless devices inside our building is critical, but our building blocks the signal," said Dale Rockwell, director, CanJet Airlines. "Once SpotCell was deployed, our wireless-unfriendly environment became a cell phone friendly zone."

"SpotCell is the best solution we've seen," said Paul Forward, general manager of AML. "It's certainly cost effective, with simple installation and no ongoing maintenance."

SpotCell 111 (PCS-GSM) and SpotCell 112 (PCS-CDMA) are easily installed in buildings requiring improved wireless coverage. Integrated antennas and adaptive techniques mean an inexpensive, out-of-the-box, non-engineered solution. The adaptive approach is critical to rapid installation and eliminates the need for ongoing monitoring and reconfiguration because it responds automatically to any changes in network conditions. SpotCell 111 and SpotCell 112 continuously monitor system isolation and base station received power, and control system gain to ensure a stable coverage area. All SpotCell products can be installed in less than one hour without the need for test equipment or special tools. No knowledge of the network or base station is required. SpotCell 111 and SpotCell 112 provide complete PCS band selectivity in bandwidth increments of 5, 7.5, 10 and 15 MHz. SpotCell supplies 20,000 sq. ft. of coverage in typical office environments, and up to 50,000 sq. ft. in open areas.
