Sanyo Ranks Highest in Overall Wireless Mobile Phone Satisfaction in the J.D. Power and Associates 2002 U.S. Wireless Mobile Phone Evaluation Study

Innovative Sanyo Phone With Built-in Camera Is Now Available in Sprint Stores Nationwide

CHATSWORTH, Calif., Dec 2, 2002 - Sanyo ranks highest in overall customer satisfaction with wireless mobile phones, according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2002 U.S. Wireless Mobile Phone Evaluation Study(SM).

The 2002 U.S. Wireless Mobile Phone Evaluation Study(SM), the first-ever J.D. Power and Associates study of this product category, measured customer satisfaction in 27 of the largest U.S. markets with the top seven wireless mobile handset providers based on responses from 5,259 households.

According to the J.D. Power and Associates study, Sanyo consistently performed above the industry average in the five major areas driving satisfaction with wireless mobile phones. Those areas (in order of importance) are: physical design, features, operation, battery function and durability. According to J.D. Power and Associates, exceeding customer expectations in these areas substantially raises the possibility that subscribers will buy the same brand the next time they are in the market to replace or upgrade their wireless mobile phones.

"Sanyo is proud to be ranked highest in the J.D. Power and Associates 2002 U.S. Wireless Mobile Phone Evaluation Study(SM)," said Atsushi Kodera, group vice president and general manager of Sanyo Fisher Company's Communications/Information Technology division. "In our ongoing partnership with Sprint, Sanyo has been offering U.S. consumers a consistently innovative lineup of wireless handsets, including America's first color screen phone, America's thinnest phone, and the newly-available SCP-5300, America's first phone with a built-in digital camera. Our ranking in the J.D. Power and Associates study is strong demonstration that Sanyo is on target with the design, features and functionality that customers want."

Sanyo's new SCP-5300 camera phone, now available at Sprint Stores nationwide, offers convenient portrait flash and zoom capability, along with the outstanding call clarity of the Sprint nationwide PCS network. With the easy-to-use Sanyo SCP-5300 and advanced Sprint PCS Vision service, wireless customers can instantly shoot, view and share photos nationwide.

At the 2002 Consumer Electronics Show, Sanyo's SCP-6000 wireless phone (America's thinnest at .39 inches) received a prestigious Innovations 2002 "Best of Innovations" Award in the Wireless Communications category. The CES Innovation awards, sponsored by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), focus on product design.

Also at the 2002 CES, the feature-packed Sanyo SCP-5150 wireless phone (a successor to the model SCP-5000, America's first color screen phone) was an Innovations 2002 Design and Engineering Showcase honoree.

Additionally this year, cable television network TechTV gave the Sanyo IMT-2000 3G prototype phone a "Best of CES" award for Telephony. The futuristic handset featured an ultra-vivid Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) display and twin built-in CCD cameras.
