SIEMENS LICENSES BEATNIK AUDIO ENGINE FOR MOBILE PHONES

Beatnik Audio Engine to power high quality synthesized music and effects for Siemens' products

San Mateo, CA – December 16, 2002 - Beatnik, Inc., a leading provider of open standards-based structured audio software solutions for mobile devices, today announced that Siemens Information and Communication Mobile Group (Siemens mobile), has licensed the Beatnik Audio Engine (BAE) for use in its products. The BAE provides support for musical polyphonic ringtones, linear audio playback, user interface sounds, audio multimedia messaging and game sound effects for mobile phones.

Beatnik’s highly efficient, small footprint, scaleable software engine supports the real time synthesis of high quality polyphonic audio. As a complete audio subsystems, the BAE incorporates a synthesizer, mixer, sample rate converter, linear audio player and support for MIDI, SPMIDI, XMF, RMF, and WAV file formats. Siemens chose the Beatnik offering because it offered a flexible and cost effective solution to providing synthesized audio, whilst enabling a fast time to market for products.

“Alongside colour screens, high quality audio is increasingly becoming a standard requirement in the mobile phones of today,” said Jeremy Copp, Beatnik’s senior vice president, sales and marketing. “The announcement of Siemens, one of the wireless industry leaders, as our latest licensee provides further evidence that the Beatnik Audio Engine is becoming the industry standard solution for providing this advanced audio.”
