Sylantro Unveils Wireless IP Centrex Initiative for the Mobile Workforce, Provides Wireless Portal for Communications Applications
-- Initiative Offers Ubiquitous Access to Sylantro Applications Via
Mobile Networks Using Web Services Model
CAMPBELL, Calif., Dec 16, 2002 - Sylantro(R) Systems Corporation, the leading provider of IP Centrex platforms and
applications, today announced a new wireless initiative that further extends the company's integrated communications products to one of the fastest
growing segments of the enterprise workforce - mobile employees and teleworkers. The new capability includes a rich graphical portal that is
accessible via any wireless Internet connection, including Wi-Fi, CDMA 2000, WCDMA and GSM/GPRS, allowing mobile workers to access their
business communications services any time and anywhere they choose to work. Through Sylantro's wireless initiative, service providers can
generate new revenues by offering complete, bundled communications services to the mobile market.
By 2006, industry analyst firm IDC predicts that 66 percent of U.S. workers will be mobile workers. Sylantro's new wireless portal, based on
SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) and Web services, takes advantage of the larger color screens found on Wi-Fi and GPRS-enabled laptops,
PDAs and cell phones to deliver an advanced integrated communications application set. Sylantro's applications include the ability to access, fully
synchronize with, and click-to-call using the Microsoft(R) contacts directory. The wireless mini-portal, combined with Sylantro's existing support for
SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) softphone clients, means that remote workers can literally have access to their business telephony services in
almost any wired or unwired environment.
"The new wireless technologies are dramatically changing the way people work and communicate, just as managed communications services are
transforming the landscape of business communications," said Matt Collier, president and CEO of Telverse, Inc. "Sylantro's wireless initiative will
enable us to extend our Business Tone service to support a wide range of wireless features and address the mobile workforce."
Sylantro's applications feature server for managed communications services is the most widely deployed in the industry. The Sylantro platform
serves the greatest number of service providers in the managed telephony market including GoBeam, Telverse, Telia, BroadVOX, Verizon,
SmartCom, Libritas, Nadir, Javelin and several others, either directly or through Sylantro's wholesale model.
Sylantro has consistently been an innovator in mobility options. More than two years ago, the company announced ComTraveler,(TM) the industry's
first portal for mobile phone browsers using WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) to deliver key IP Centrex functions. Sylantro also offers the
ComRIO(TM) (Remote Instant Office) application module, which allows users to set up an impromptu office anywhere they have access to a
browser and phone.
The wireless initiative adds support for newer devices that employ Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity, or IEEE 802.11b) and GPRS (General Packet Radio
Service), which is offered by T-Mobile, Cingular and others worldwide. These technologies are experiencing rapid adoption among an increasingly
mobile workforce. The analyst firm In-Stat/MDR has predicted more than 16 million smartphone shipments per year in 2006.
"The ability to serve the wireless enterprise and mobile workers will be increasingly important for service providers as the industry evolves," said
Deb Mielke, managing director of industry analyst firm Treillage Network Strategies, Inc. "Sylantro's wireless initiative represents a new innovation
that will help enable the new wireless worker."
Sylantro's managed communications applications, including Hosted PBX, IP Centrex and other advanced services, can be deployed with existing
Class 5 legacy infrastructures or used with softswitch-based networks. Sylantro's managed telephony applications modules synthesize the best
features of business phone systems, Web browsers and mobile phones and related mobile technologies to deliver features that far exceed those of
traditional PBXs and IP/PBXs. Through this new wireless initiative, service providers can extend their Sylantro-based offerings to a burgeoning
market - the mobile enterprise.
