SmartServ's BREW Team Poised to Capitalize on Verizon Wireless Commitment
STAMFORD, Conn., Feb 11, 2002 -- SmartServ Online(R), Inc. (Nasdaq: SSOL),
www.smartserv.com today announced a dedicated BREW(TM) team devoted to providing professional services to those
enterprises who extend their services across QUALCOMM's BREW-committed carrier networks. BREW(TM) (QUALCOMM's
Binary -Runtime Environment for Wireless) is a client-based application that simplifies and facilitates the task of integrating
applications on wireless devices. SmartServ is a QUALCOMM Select BREW(TM) Developer.
According to a recent announcement, Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest wireless service provider, will be the first North
American carrier to rollout BREW(TM) applications, expected as early as Q3 2002. SmartServ applications reside on the
BREW(TM) platform.
The SmartServ BREW(TM) team comprises business development, project management, carrier relations, UI software
development, and backend integration specialists. The full breadth of professional services range from application development, to
testing and certification, to hosting and distribution through its secure, scalable carrier-grade data centers located in New York City
and Stamford, Connecticut. The intention of these focused BREW(TM) services is to help enterprises minimize the time and effort
required to develop, certify, test and launch applications to market.
SmartServ's BREW(TM) team has been working with QUALCOMM INTERNET SERVICES to convert the company's own
financial services applications to BREW(TM) in anticipation of Verizon's commitment. In addition, SmartServ has been in
discussions with several large entertainment, media and financial organizations about extending their existing Web-based content and
services to BREW(TM).
"Never before has the wireless data market in the US witnessed a concerted effort among all disciplines to make the platform
successful -- application developers, partner brands, and service providers -- in this case Verizon, with 30 million subscribers,"
noted Sam Cassetta, SmartServ CEO. "This, together with a subscriber revenue share model, as proposed by QUALCOMM, is
sure to make BREW(TM) a success. I believe that the early uptake by Verizon may be the trigger for quick widespread carrier
adoption," he concluded.
