URL(s): www.mgif.org
PISCATAWAY, N.J., Feb 28, 2002 - The Mobile Games Interoperability Forum (MGIF) has
announced formation of its inaugural Management Board, and has named the first officers of that Board.
The MGIF Management Board is comprised of the four MGIF Founder Companies - Ericsson, Motorola, Nokia and Siemens
- plus four elected Sponsor companies: Capcom, Codeonline, Konami and Picofun. The current Management Board will serve
through year-end 2002.
Graham Thomas of Nokia was elected Chair of the MGIF Management Board, while Paul Goode of Motorola will serve as
Vice Chair and Amr Attia of Siemens will serve as Treasurer. Each position shall be reconfirmed every three months.
The Chair will manage the overall well being of the Forum, while the Vice Chair will act as MGIF's liaison to other standards
bodies and forums. The Treasurer will manage the finances of the MGIF.
Other roles in the MGIF Management Board were defined as well. Bo Nordblom of Ericsson will serve as Membership
Liaison; Matti Hamalainen of Codeonline will serve as Technical Liaison; Anders Storm of Picofun will serve as Marketing
Liaison; Tony Bickley of Konami will serve as Certification Activities Liaison; and Yosuke Yoneda of Capcom will serve as
Developer Liaison.
The MGIF was formed by Ericsson, Motorola, Nokia and Siemens in July 2001 to address the issues of portability and
interoperability in the mobile games space. The MGIF specifications will allow game developers to produce and deploy mobile
games that can be distributed across multiple game servers and wireless networks, and played over different mobile devices.
While the MGIF will not specify functionality for mobile devices, it will work with and provide input to appropriate standards
bodies and forums to enable an open end-to-end games environment. The MGIF will only define API specifications and will not
produce a mobile game platform.
In addition from the four founding companies, the MGIF Sponsors are Borland, Capcom, Cash-U Mobile Technologies Ltd.,
Codeonline, Digital Bridges, iFone, Konami, Metrowerks, Picofun and Terraplay Systems. Additional information about the
MGIF can be found on the Forum's website ( http://www.mgif.org) or requested via e-mail through mgif-info@mgif.org .
The MGIF is a program of the IEEE Industry Standards and Technology Organization (IEEE-ISTO), which supports the
management and administration of the Forum's day-to-day activities.
