MapInfo to Showcase Mobile Location Services at CTIA 2002

TROY, NY--March 15, 2002--MapInfo Corporation (Nasdaq: MAPS) today announced it will demonstrate its industry-leading, mobile location services platform, miAware(TM), at CTIA Wireless 2002, the largest wireless show in the telecommunication and computing industries. MapInfo is a leading provider of mobile location services, enabling wireless service providers to offer unique applications to customers that let them stay connected to family, friends and colleagues. MapInfo will demonstrate its wireless lifestyle applications at booth #1149.

"MapInfo?s success to date based on our work with several major wireless companies validates our leadership position in the mobile location services (MLS) marketplace," said Mark Cattini, president and CEO, MapInfo. "It confirms our strategy over the last two years to focus upon the MLS marketplace and we see this becoming a core component of our business going forward."

Service providers have the option of using pre-built application templates built on top of miAware or developing their own distinctive offerings specifically customized to their subscribers? needs. At CTIA, MapInfo will showcase the following wireless lifestyle applications built on its mobile location services platform:

- miGuide(TM)-- Subscribers can easily find relevant, location-specific information based on where they are and where they are going--plus directions on how to get there. Yellow Pages or database content can be added to provide customers with additional capabilities. For example, with miGuide, a subscriber can find out where a movie is playing, order tickets and get directions. People on the go can now easily answer questions such as "Where am I?" "What?s around me?" and "How do I get to where I want to be?"

- miFriends(TM)-- People can locate friends, family or colleagues who are also subscribers to miFriends. Subscribers can access maps showing real-time locations of friends and get directions to them.

- miConnect(TM)-- Managers or dispatchers can locate customers, find a mobile worker near that customer with the appropriate skills for the job, and send job information to the worker such as customer name, contact information and directions to the location. In addition, workers can search for priority or nearby jobs from their phone once they?ve completed a job and are ready for the next one. This results in greater productivity and cost savings.

MapInfo will also be highlighting its new miAware Developer Services Program, which provides developers and content providers with all the software and resources needed to quickly build and deploy commercially viable mobile location applications. The program is designed to help them generate revenue opportunities in the growing market for business and consumer mobile location services applications.

"MapInfo is building an essential part of the infrastructure for mobile location services," said Jason Devitt, president and CEO, Vindigo. "As the leading developer of applications for end users, Vindigo is delighted to be a charter member of MapInfo?s miAware Developer Services Program, and we look forward to working with MapInfo to build compelling services for wireless subscribers in the U.S. and elsewhere."

Application possibilities span a wide range, but will share a common theme of enhancing the lives of mobile phone users by making information more accessible and more relevant to their current location. The miAware Developer Services Program was introduced in February and has already generated interest from developers in all industries.
