Now Including Wireless Village and J2ME applications, Lexicus SDK v6.0 Gets Manufacturers to Market Faster with Interoperable Solutions

SAN FRANCISCO, Mar 26, 2002 - Lexicus, a division of Motorola (NYSE: MOT), today announced the release the first J2ME client software development kit (SDK) for interoperable wireless services. SDK v. 6.0 is a turnkey solution that allows handset manufacturers to immediately launch innovative wireless applications including intelligent keypad text entry technology (iTAP(TM)), EMS release 5.0 compliant Mobile Vector Graphics (MVG), and Instant Messaging and Presence Services (IMPS) based on Wireless Village open specifications.

Handset manufacturers and value added service providers can rapidly implement interoperable instant messaging clients and other presence-based applications with the Motorola Lexicus SDK v6.0, because it includes a fully featured Wireless Village based protocol stack and reference UI for Instant Messaging and Presence Services. With an EMS release 5.0 compliant MVG code, the SDK also enables the development of applications based on the creation, compression and delivery of digital drawings, images and audio files. The iTAP technology provides predictive text and advanced dictionary capabilities, greatly enhancing the end-user experience when entering text messages on mobile devices.

In addition to software and comprehensive documentation, Motorola Lexicus will offer developer support and professional services. These include programs to customize and port the SDK components, as well as opportunities to test new applications against the Wireless Village reference server. In parallel with the Motorola Lexicus SDK, Motorola offers a carrier-grade Download Server with J2ME technology as part of its Mobile Services Cafe suite of mobile data solutions for carriers. Applications developed with the Motorola Lexicus SDK can be distributed wirelessly on the Motorola Download Server. The SDK and Motorola Download Server provide a complete end-to-end solution for the rapid development and deployment of exciting new J2ME applications.

"Motorola is continually offering manufacturers and carriers simple solutions that expand the mobile communications experience and can be customized to build brand loyalty. For the first time, handset manufacturers will have an opportunity to quickly roll out interoperable wireless services using this new SDK. It will also serve as a platform for companies to build their own custom applications," said Craig Peddie, General Manager of Lexicus.

As a founding member of Wireless Village, Motorola is focused on driving standards and interoperability, for mobile Instant Messaging and Presence Services. This easy to deploy SDK will help promote the adoption of interoperable services by jump starting the deployment of Wireless Village clients to manufacturers worldwide.
