BELLEVUE, Wash., Mar 27, 2002 - Wireless Services Corporation (WSC), the leader in providing
value-added wireless data delivery solutions and the largest national provider of standards-based intercarrier data messaging
interoperability, announced immediate availability of its pre-pay wireless data billing application.
The product, a component within WSC's Intercarrier Data Exchange (IDX) version 4.0, provides carriers the ability to monetize their
text messaging traffic within a pre-pay environment that currently isn't commonly available today. Carriers can now bill for SMS, and
2-way messaging services on a per message basis within their pre-paid customer base.
The growth of wireless devices used for data communications is expected to provide substantial growth for the pre-pay data market.
The worldwide wireless data billing market is expected to grow from $94.6 million in 2001 to $855.7 million in 2005, according to a
December 2001 IDC report.
WSC's IDX platform offers enhanced pre-pay wireless data capabilities such as:
-- Track message detail based on such key parameters as number of
characters, time of day and the number of message recipients
-- Confirmation for all "sent" and "read" messages which
alleviates billing errors
-- Data delivered in the user interface and format specified by
the individual carrier
-- Flexible interface to pre-pay billing vendors that offer both
real-time and flat fee pricing plans
-- Ability to validate that the message recipient has a positive
account balance
-- Detailed billing record provided to carrier's pre-pay billing
system when message is delivered to the recipient's mobile
device, offering the ability to charge different prices for
different message sources
-- Technology aware platform designed for all carrier network
infrastructures and standards such as CDMA, GSM, iDEN and TDMA
"Wireless carriers are leaving money on the table by not offering pre-pay wireless data services. Our billing application can quickly
help them generate additional revenue that's currently an untapped market," said Steve Wood, president and CEO of Wireless
Services Corporation.
