DALLAS, TX, April 2, 2002 -- Bearded Toad Entertainment, LLC., a leading developer of mobile and wireless games, today announced the release of its 4th generation mobile game engine, EDGE 4. EDGE allows developers to rapidly create high quality mobile and wireless multimedia games for many device platforms including PDAs and smart phones.
Games written with EDGE will run on any supported mobile device with minimal changes. EDGE currently supports over 85% of all mobile devices through its ability to operate on both Palm and Pocket PC operating systems. EDGE will also support Game Boy Advance, Symbian and Qualcomm’s BREW before the end of the year.
Bearded Toad Entertainment’s mission is to bring high quality and entertaining games to mobile users at affordable development costs. “By the end of this year we will be able to create a game and have it run on 5 different platforms almost instantly, all with substantially reduced development effort. This provides Bearded Toad Entertainment with a powerful competitive advantage, as our development team will be able to complete code faster and cheaper, and in-turn, we will be able to offer our customers more games at lower prices,“ said Tim Hoffman, chief executive of Bearded Toad Entertainment.
EDGE 4.0 is a powerful game application framework that provides all the ingredients necessary for developers to create high quality multimedia games for mobile and wireless devices. It includes a robust set of game technology with full support for animation, sprites, rectangular and isometric tile maps, sound and music, pen and button input, GUI objects, data storage, and more. EDGE will be available for licensing by independent game developers and other game studios later this year.
“A low-level platform interface layer allows EDGE to access the facilities of the underlying operating system. After that component is in place, each game written with EDGE can run on that new platform,” added Hoffman. “We have completed the platform interface for Palm OS and Pocket PC, Game Boy Advance is the next exciting addition to our portfolio.”
Bearded Toad Entertainment is an award winning game studio that develops high quality games for mobile and handheld platforms including PDAs and smart phones. Over 250,000 copies of Bearded Toad's products have been downloaded, and it has customers in more than 25 countries.
To date, over 8 titles have been developed using game technology from Bearded Toad Entertainment. Those titles include Fish Tank Terror, Filthy Pigeons, and FIB-OR-NOT?TM, three of Bearded Toad’s top award winning games.
