VocalData Introduces Mobility, Capacity, and Interoperability Advancements

SEATTLE--April 8, 2002-- VocalData to Demo New Web Portal, and Interoperability With PDA Applications, Wireless and Wire Line IP Phone Partners At Spring VON 2002

VocalData Inc., the leader in the hosted PBX and enhanced applications server market, today announced at Spring VON a new set of capabilities designed to increase utility for mobile users, and to provide service providers with even more scalable solutions using a broader set of strategic partners.

Mobility--Support for the mobile user has been added with the web portal, which augments VocalData's existing desktop portal. Now, via a personalized web portal, "road warriors" can access all their on-line corporate and personal contact directories, view call logs, and modify their customized call management or screening. Travelers can now change their "reach me" or call forwarding information while on the road via the web portal, or remotely via any phone.

For in-building mobile users, the Voice Over IP SoftSwitch(TM) (VOISS, pronounced voice) now interoperates with IP blue Technology Solutions' VT-GO!, a Windows CE soft telephony application that transforms Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) into voice-enabled wireless devices.

"A fundamental benefit of IP-based, hosted PBX services is the ability to overcome geographic barriers inherent with circuit-switched voice. By integrating our solution with wireless devices and adding universal web access, we can help the end user unify his communications regardless of location," said Michael Camp, President and CEO, VocalData. The VT-GO! application was developed by IP blue, a recognized leader in VOIP technology development. IP blue is a member of Cisco's IP telephony development ecosystem of partners.

Scalability-- As service providers move from initial deployment to larger scale hosted PBX implementations, improved platform performance becomes ever more critical. To achieve this goal, VocalData is introducing the VOISS Streaming Server--the SS-1, which allows service providers to dramatically improve system throughput by supporting playing and recording of audio streams in a separate server. This enables the VOISS call agent servers to support significantly more users by dedicating system resources totally to call processing.

Interoperability--The latest developments build on VocalData's longstanding commitment to interoperability, by completing integration with industry-leading softswitches, trunking gateways, access gateways, and IP phones. Interoperability has been achieved with Cisco's AS5300 Universal Access Server and the AS5350 Universal Gateway. In addition, the VOISS platform has successfully passed interoperability testing with Sonus Networks' GSX9000(TM) Open Services Switch and Insignus(TM) Softswitch. SIP-based interoperability with the Sonus platforms allows service providers using VOISS to more cost-effectively support larger scale operations using SS7 connectivity to the PSTN.

Integration has also been concluded using the MGCP protocol and Polycom's line of SoundPoint(R) IP desktop phones, featuring dual Ethernet ports, a large, easy-to-read graphical display, a hands-free speakerphone for crisp and professional sound, and 13 feature programmable keys to simplify operation. Polycom's standards-based Soundpoint IP desktop phones give service providers another option for meeting end-user phone set needs and preferences. Finally, interoperability testing has been completed with the Cisco ATA 186, an analog VOIP gateway that allows analog phones and FAX machines to interface with IP networks.

Spring VON 2002 Demo

VocalData will be demonstrating use of its new web portal with the VT-GO! application, the Polycom Soundpoint IP 400, and a variety of other devices at 3:30 p.m. Monday, April 8, in the Washington State Convention and Trade Center, Seattle, Washington, as part of Spring VON 2002.
