m.traction Instant Messaging: real time messaging via mobilem phone
URL(s): www.siemens-mobile.com
A solution from Siemens based on Ecrio's Rich Instant
Messaging Platform
With m.traction, Siemens Information and Communication
Mobile (IC Mobile) offers mobile operators a new instant
messaging solution for mobile phones. The difference lies in
the speed: in contrast to e-mail, instant messages appear on
the display of the receiving device as soon as they are
sent. A personal "buddy list" shows which friends,
colleagues or business partners are currently waiting to
talk or where they are. Mobile phone users can therefore
meet and exchange messages "online" whenever they feel like
it.
The platform for m.traction instant messaging is provided by
Ecrio as part of an OEM agreement, while Siemens handles the
smooth integration of the overall solution in the mobile
network and contributes its Presence Server. The server
keeps track of which of members of the buddy list can
currently be reached and has indicated that he is ready to
talk.
For a virtual private conversation between two people,
e-mail is usually too slow. And in the chat room, just about
anyone can listen in. This is why instant messaging has
already established itelf as an extremely popular medium and
is used to exchange millions of short messages daily. Market
analysts share the view that mobile subscribers will also
adopt this technology in order to shorten communication
processes and simplify social intercourse.
Instant messages are not restricted to text alone, they can
also transport a variety of other files, such as photos,
drawings, ring tones, logos, and audio, video and text
files. And in addition to SMS- and WAP-capable cell phones,
PCs and PDAs can also be used as terminals.
