Dubai 10 April 2003 – Acotel Group, the leading international Wireless Application Service Provider (WASP) has been awarded a contract with Mobitel Sudan for supplying a high-capacity SMS centre to meet the requirements of Mobitel’s expanding subscriber base in Sudan. Under this agreement Jinny Software Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Acotel, will supply the technical platform for Mobitel.
Acotel has devised an assertive strategy to consolidate its position in the wireless messaging arena in the Middle East, by recently acquiring ared 100 per cent stake in Info2cell.com, the leading regional wireless information provider.
“The selection of Acotel was an obvious decision for us, because it offered a complete solution, including all possible SMS features, as well as offering a simple cost-effective upgrade path for the long term,” commented Hisham Mustafa Allam, Planning and IT Director, Mobitel. “We were particularly impressed with Acotel’s focus on the Middle East, through its network of offices in Beirut, Amman and Dubai.”
“This contract with Mobitel will allow Acotel to demonstrate to the region its full potential of Jinny Software, a company that has gained a worldwide reputation for its versatility and innovation in delivering SMS services,” said Bashar Dahabra, General Manager, Acotel Middle East. “Under the new deal between Acotel and Mobitel, subscribers in Sudan will be able to use some pioneering services based on Acotel’s industry leading technology that has been tried and tested in the Middle East and European markets. Mobitel now becomes the newest member of the Acotel messaging community in the Middle East currently delivering over 10 million SMS messages per day.”
Apart from its expertise in SMS and WAP, Acotel has developed a product range that provides the resilience to deliver wireless Multimedia Messaging Services (MMS) and is gearing up for third generation (3G) networks. It is an active contributor to 3G standards, where it is positioning itself as a leader in 3G MMS platforms. Acotel, which operates from Rome, recently set up a regional office in Dubai, to cater to a region where the number of mobile phone subscribers has outperformed fixed lines subscribers.
Acotel Group SpA is Europe’s leading Wireless Application Service Provider (WASP), and is ranked among the top 10 WASP world wide providers. The company, founded in 1992 and listed on the Milan Stock Exchange in 2000, provides personalized, wireless value-added services to an addressable subscriber base of 35 million, through partnerships with leading Wireless Network Operators.
