MapInfo Technology Powers First Wireless Vehicle Tracking Service for Public and Private Transit Providers
TROY, N.Y.--April 10, 2003--
Airport Shuttles, Public Transportation and Taxi Companies Can Provide Customers with Improved Service and Greater Security with Location Intelligence
MapInfo Corporation (Nasdaq: MAPS), the leading provider of location intelligence solutions for the enterprise, today announced that its technology is being used to power the first wireless vehicle tracking service for public and private transit providers. Next-Shuttle, developed by Bridge Technology, Inc., enables airport shuttle services, public and private transportation organizations, and municipalities to monitor their vehicles at all times, resulting in increased security, efficiency and customer satisfaction.
Due to today's increased emphasis on security, airports and other transportation providers are very cognizant of making public transportation as safe and efficient as possible without causing unnecessary delays. Next-Shuttle provides airports, bus stations and other transportation providers with the enhanced security they need while also helping to keep operations running smoothly and efficiently. Next-Shuttle combines wireless technology with Global Positioning System (GPS) technology enabling information about the position, speed and direction of the vehicle to be transmitted to a centralized processing center that Bridge Technology's staff maintains 24 hours a day.
Built with MapInfo MapX(R) technology and StreetPro(R) U.S., MapInfo's premier street-level data product, with MapInfo partner Primus Geographics, Inc., Next-Shuttle enables transit companies to easily track and monitor all routes on a map. Transit companies are now more easily and securely able to assign drivers to routes and monitor service. A shuttle service, for example, can be alerted to incidents such as a breakdown or accident, and pinpoint its exact location on a map. In addition, the service can trace any mobile unit instantly and provide immediate load and capacity analysis.
"The MapInfo mapping component of Next-Shuttle enables our customers to always know the status of its vehicles and pinpoint with unparalleled accuracy where, when and how long a vehicle is at a specific location," said Ian McDonald, president of Bridge Technology. "In addition to providing enhanced security, it provides significant logistical benefits as well. Customers can determine the best routes for their vehicles and optimally schedule and track important pickup of passengers. All of this results in enhanced cost savings and customer satisfaction."
"Bridge Technology's wireless tracking device is essential for all private and public transit providers that want to provide safe and secure services to their clients. While national security is a number one concern, in today's economy, businesses need to be concerned with the bottom line and Next-Shuttle addresses both of these issues," added Brian Lantz, vice president and advisor to homeland security, MapInfo Corp.
