ADC's Radio Over Fiber and Terabeam's Millimeter Wave Radio Work for Wireless Carriers

Terabeam's Millimeter Wavelength Equipment Pairs with ADC's Digivance

MINNEAPOLIS and KIRKLAND, WA -- April 21, 2003 -- Terabeam Corporation and ADC (NASDAQ: ADCT; www.adc.com) announced today that ADC has approved the use of Terabeam's millimeter wave equipment for use with ADC's Digivance(TM) radio over fiber system in wireless carrier deployments.

ADC's Digivance radio frequency (RF) transport system allows wireless telecommunications carriers to deliver coverage and capacity via digital optical signals. Terabeam's high frequency millimeter wavelength systems extend the reach of fiber optic transmissions by taking that same signal and transmitting it via a 60 gigahertz radio signal. This is applicable in instances where fiber is not available and can be used in place of costly trenching and laying of fiber optic cable. The combination of the two systems allows both companies to reach additional locations not served by fiber optic cabling.

Terabeam and ADC have completed a test with a leading U.S. wireless carrier where the combination of the Terabeam millimeter wave equipment paired with the ADC Digivance provided 99.995% availability.

Terabeam's GigE Gigalink is the first radio frequency (RF) product certified by the FCC that provides full duplex gigabit line rates. That means that not only does the GigE Gigalink provide a gigabit interface to tie into a customer's communications network, it also transmits and receives signals at a full gigabit per second. In a sense, it's fiber optics without the fiber. Terabeam's high frequency millimeter wave transceivers send data via a 60 GHz radio signal from building rooftops, towers or through office windows.

ADC's Digivance system provides improved network coverage with significant cost savings via radio over fiber solutions for targeted applications and with a technique known as "Base-Station Hoteling." By centralizing base-station equipment and using Digivance for RF distribution, wireless carriers can easily and cost effectively deploy antennae into desired coverage areas. Digivance is the only solution that digitizes the wideband RF for transport over fiber.

About Terabeam

Terabeam provides telecommunications carriers and enterprise customers with broadband wireless equipment and professional services to extend their existing networks. Terabeam has developed free space optics (sending invisible light primarily through office windows) and millimeter wave (60 Gigahertz radio) technologies to deliver the speed, capacity and connectivity of fiber optics and the delivery times of a wireless technology. Terabeam is ISO 9001 registered and certified. Terabeam is a registered trademark of Terabeam Corporation. Elliptica, Magna and Gigalink are trademarks of Terabeam Corporation.
