Lucent Selects Birdstep's RDM Embedded Database for Lambda Xtreme
Seattle/Oslo, Norway - April 23, 2003 - Birdstep Technology today announced
that Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) has licensed Birdstep's RDM Embedded
database for use with Wind River Systems' VxWorks(r) real-time operating
system. Lucent integrates Birdstep's database into their LambdaXtreme
Transport(tm), a next generation DWDM transport system.
"RDM Embedded has proven to be a fast and reliable solution that ensures the
safety and availability of data stored on our system," said Vivek Arya,
director of product management, Lambda Xtreme, for Lucent. "We selected
Birdstep's database to enable us to meet the critical performance
requirements that our customers demand."
Lucent's system requires the speed of a database in RAM memory and, for
reliability and integrity, a mirror image of the database in flash memory.
RDM Embedded is a small-footprint, high-performance database that developers
can easily deploy in mission-critical applications for industries such as
finance, healthcare and telecommunications. Customers are assured data
security, integrity and availability with RDM Embedded data mirroring,
transaction processing and automatic crash recovery, as well as zero
database administration and the industry's smallest footprint.
"Our customers choose RDM Embedded to meet the high-priority requirements of
embedded applications, ranging from complex real-time systems to compact
high performance applications," said Hans-Arne L'orange, chief executive
officer, Americas for Birdstep. "We are pleased that Lucent continues to
rely on our database to ensure system-critical performance."
