Metrowerks To Offer All-in-One Developer Kit for the Siemens SX1 Smartphone

CodeWarrior(tm)Tools Offer Programmers Early Access to Series 60-Based SX1 Phone with Wireless Development Kit

SYMBIAN EXPOSIUM, LONDON - April 29, 2003 - Siemens AG (NYSE:SI), one of the world's leading mobile phone manufacturers, and Metrowerks, maker of CodeWarrior(tm) software and hardware development tools and services have collaborated to create CodeWarrior Wireless Development Kit for Symbian OS(tm), Siemens SX1 Edition. The kit, built for the newest Series 60-based Siemens SX1 smartphone is expected to provide developers with the tools and services they need to start building Symbian-based applications and games for the Siemens SX1 and other Series 60 devices - all in the user-friendly CodeWarrior environment.

Included in the CodeWarrior Wireless Development Kit for Symbian OS, Siemens SX1 Edition is the popular CodeWarrior Development Studio for Symbian OS v2, Personal Edition, and the latest Series 60 SDK for Symbian OS. Also included in the bundle is a first-access, commercial-release version of the Siemens SX1 mobile phone, a new Series 60 tri-band phone. The specially priced bundle provides everything programmers need to write, debug, test and deploy applications right out of the box.

"Symbian OS is positioned to become the industry standard and is already the smartphone platform of choice for the majority of the world's largest mobile phone manufacturers," said Maurice van Riek, senior vice president and general manager of the Business Unit 3G and Convergence Products within the Siemens Information and Communication Mobile Group. "CodeWarrior Wireless Development Kit for Symbian OS, SX1 Edition, offers developers everything they need to start building valuable applications on the Siemens SX1 phone, including access to the unreleased phone. Together with Metrowerks, Siemens is making development for the SX1 and other Series 60 mobile devices easier than ever before and creating a clear path to market for our customers."

Series 60 devices are designed to provide rich communications and enhanced applications consisting of telephony and personal information management applications, browser and messaging clients and a modifiable user interface designed for easy, single-hand operation. Series 60 devices are licensed to some of the world's largest handset manufacturers, which together represent almost two-thirds of the global handset market. Running on top of the Symbian OS, an operating system for advanced, data-enabled mobile phones, Series 60 supports open and common key technologies, such as MMS, Java(tm), WAP/XHTML, and C++/Symbian OS (native).

"In order to get compelling applications to market quickly, developers need powerful tools and early access to hardware," said David Clifton, vice president of marketing, Metrowerks. "Together with Siemens, Metrowerks is delivering what developers need to create applications for the new Siemens SX1 mobile phone," "The CodeWarrior Wireless Development Kit for Symbian OS, Siemens SX1 Edition, is another example of Metrowerks ensuring developers targeting Symbian OS get a critical competitive edge to compete and be successful in the wireless market."

Metrowerks CodeWarrior Development Studio for Symbian OS is a comprehensive, integrated set of software programming tools that enable developers to create, debug and compile C/C++ Symbian applications for Series 60 devices and other supported platforms based on the Symbian OS. The tool set provides timesaving features including full Symbian-build components and descriptor presentation inside the debugger.

Developed by Siemens and Metrowerks, the CodeWarrior Wireless Developer Kit for SX1 includes:

- CodeWarrior Development Studio for Symbian OS v2, Personal Edition

- Series 60 SDK for Symbian OS

- A first access commercial release Siemens SX1 tri-band phone
