O2 ANNOUNCES "XMAIL" ON THE MOVE FOR PROFESSIONAL CONSUMERS
URL(s): www.o2.co.uk/xmail
O2 today announced the launch of xmail(tm), a new mobile email service for its xda® handset - a combined colour Personal Digital Assistant and mobile phone (GPRS) handset. xmail provides busy professionals access to their business email, calendar, corporate and personal contacts and tasks whilst they are on the move.
xmail users will be able to get more from what was once considered wasted time, such as being stuck in a taxi or on a train journey, with always-on email services plus the ability to automatically synchronise email messages from their desktop directly with their xda.
"xmail meets the needs of professional consumers who are looking for a secure, easy-to-use email service. In trials customers said that xmail allowed them to 'stay ahead of the game' and 'made every minute of their time more valuable'", said Kent Thexton, chief data and marketing officer, mmO2 plc. "O2 has now sold over 50,000 xda's and the customer experience has been excellent - but there has been a demand for a more varied email connectivity solutions. As a leader with email on the move we look to continue to expand this market."
xmail is a self provisioning service so getting started is simple; customers download the software from the O2 website (www.o2.co.uk/xmail) and are up and running with secure access to their business data in minutes. All data is delivered to the subscriber's mobile device in real-time, without the need for cradle synchronisation.
Customers can sign up for a free 10 day trail of xmail. After that customers pay £9.99 per month for the xmail service charge. This does not cover any airtime or data usage.
xmail from O2 is enabled by System SEVEN(tm), a patent-pending mobile data services platform developed by SEVEN. System SEVEN is deployed by mobile operators worldwide, and has received multiple awards, including Network Magazine's 2003 Product of the Year, and the Frost & Sullivan Market Engineering Award for Technology Innovation.
"O2 leads the mobile market with advanced, compelling devices such as the Microsoft Pocket PC-powered xda," said Bill Nguyen, founder and president of SEVEN. "xmail transforms the xda beyond a great PDA to a killer appliance for fully synchronised, over-the-air personal and business messaging."
