Mobile Enterprise Alliance Launches in US at N+I
Industry Leaders Join Mobile Enterprise Alliance for North American Launch;
Vodafone Group to join 250+ Companies to Provide Insight Into Delivering
Enterprise Applications to Mobile Workers
LAS VEGAS, NetWorld+Interop, April 29, 2003 - Leading IT vendors, service
providers and systems integrators today announced the U.S. launch of the
Mobile Enterprise Alliance (MEA), an international market development and
advocacy group formed to promote the benefits of a mobile workforce to
enterprise end users and IT managers.
Launched in Europe at CeBIT in March, the MEA already has more than 250
enterprise members and vendor partners. The new organization?s efforts have
been bolstered by the addition of global wireless operator Vodafone Group
Plc. Based in Geneva, Switzerland and Washington, DC the MEA?s founding
members include: Citrix (Nasdaq: CTXS), Inmarsat Ltd., LINQware, Palm
(Nasdaq: PALM), Sierra Wireless (TSX: SW), Symbol Technologies (NYSE: SBL),
Symbian, TravelingPC and Vodafone Group Plc (LSE: VOD).
The MEA is a vendor- and technology-independent alliance whose objectives
are to deliver forward-thinking guidance, assistance and expertise to
enterprises seeking to establish mobile workforce solutions. Through the
participation of leading mobile technology companies, the MEA provides
access to a wealth of educational material as well as technical information,
case studies and product information. This benefits key decision makers at
enterprises who will now be able to make informed decisions about a variety
of issues such as the compatibility of devices, networks and applications.
"Vodafone is aiming to deliver customers? business applications across its
networks with complete security. To do this, it needs to work with partners
across the whole industry. Vodafone believes the Mobile Enterprise Alliance
to be an excellent venue for sharing ideas with partners about creating
mobile business solutions for customers." Rikke Helms, director Mobile
Office Team, Vodafone Global Products and Services.
Mobility project leaders will learn first-hand from other companies about
the successes and challenges of certain implementations including any return
on investment that was achieved. The MEA also provides specific information
for vertical sectors such as finance or logistics. This enables mobility
project leaders to communicate with peers about implemented mobile
solutions?in a vendor-neutral setting.
?Mobile enterprise services continue to be a powerful segment of the
software and IT industry,? proclaimed Ken Wasch, president of the Software &
Information Industry Association. ?Nevertheless, as the MEA grows, its
focus will not change from providing a neutral forum for end-users and
vendors to explore new uses of the technology and methodologies for applying
them. Both sides of the market-equation need to be heard and MEA provides
the logical, and only, global source for reliable and accurate information
about trends and solutions in the mobile marketplace.?
The MEA is a division of SIIA (Software & Information Industry Association)
and is directed by a board of directors from founding vendor partner
companies. ?With guidance and support from SIIA and our founding vendor
partners, the MEA is well-positioned to advance enterprise mobility through
advocacy and education,? said Traver Gruen-Kennedy, MEA chairman and vice
president and chief evangelist for Citrix Systems, Inc. As a not-for-profit
organization, the MEA is funded through sliding-scale subscriptions from
participating vendors, service providers and systems integrators. Enterprise
organizations are able to participate and benefit from the MEA at no cost,
although they are encouraged to share their experiences and advice with
other enterprise members.
