Metrowerks and Texas Instruments Offer Customized Development Kit For Symbian(tm) Platform

CodeWarrior(tm) Tools Kit Facilitates Development of 2.5G and 3G Wireless Applications and Mobile Devices for TI Hardware

SYMBIAN EXPOSIUM, LONDON-April 29, 2003 -Metrowerks has introduced two additions to its family of CodeWarrior(tm) Wireless Development Kits for Symbian(tm) OS. These latest kits have been developed in collaboration with Texas Instruments (TI) (NYSE:TXN), leverage the company's OMAP(tm) platform, and are designed to improve the time to market for new devices and applications. The kits are expected to be available in August with the (original equipment manufacturer) OEM or Professional editions of CodeWarrior Development Studio for Symbian OS.

The new CodeWarrior Wireless Development Kits from Metrowerks include comprehensive development hardware and software tools engineered for developers and device manufacturers targeting the Symbian OS with the TI Innovator(tm) Development Kit for the OMAP platform. The TI Innovator Development Kit is designed to allow wireless software developers to easily port high-performance applications to TI's family of OMAP processors and reduce time-to-market for applications developers and device manufacturers.

"OMAP processors for wireless devices deliver the performance and battery life consumers want so they can enjoy a wide range of products and services, such as multimedia messaging, streaming media, secure mobile commerce and interactive gaming," said Paul Werp, worldwide director of marketing for TI's OMAP platform. "This new collaboration with Metrowerks helps wireless application developers, manufacturers and operators quickly develop wireless communications-centric applications and services that provide new dimensions to users' mobile experiences."

The OEM version of the CodeWarrior Wireless Development Kit, OMAP Edition, is optimized for wireless device manufacturers creating mobile phones using Symbian OS. It includes the newest support for the Texas Instruments XDS560 Joint Test Action Group (JTAG) and Target Server (included in the kit), which allows developers to debug the Symbian OS kernel using TI's high speed in-circuit emulator. Also included in the kit is a new OMAP1510 processor Virtual Platform from Virtio Corporation.

The Professional version of the kit for application developers includes the TI Innovator Kit and all the necessary peripherals to support on-device debugging of Symbian applications via the Innovator Kit's serial connection.

"Metrowerks has leveraged its strong relationships with leading handset and silicon manufacturers to provide comprehensive development tools and services for our customers. Our latest TI OMAP support in the OEM and Professional Edition tools is helping developers bring new devices and applications to market faster," said D'Arcy Salzmann, wireless industry manager, Metrowerks. "CodeWarrior products are the tools used to build the Symbian OS, so it makes sense that we are also first to market with a product optimized for the OMAP platform, which provides both JTAG and serial on-device debugging. CodeWarrior Wireless Development Kits help accelerate the creation of new phones and content."

The OEM version of the CodeWarrior Wireless Development Kit for Symbian OS, OMAP Edition, is expected to include:

- CodeWarrior Development Studio for Symbian OS, OEM Edition, Version 2.5 with Virtio OMAP 1510 Softboard with TI Target Server and XDS 560 JTAG connectivity

- TI Innovator Kit for OMAP 1510 processor

- Symbian OS 7.x OS image and CD, with target server and Metrowerks MetroTRK (target resident kernel) support included

- UIQ SDK

- TI XDS 560 JTAG for Symbian OS stop-mode kernel debugging

- TI Code Composer Studio for DSP Development

The Professional version of the CodeWarrior Wireless Development Kit for Symbian OS, Texas Instruments Edition, is expected to include:

- CodeWarrior Development Studio for Symbian OS, Professional Edition, Version 2.0

- TI Innovator kit for OMAP 1510 processor

- Symbian OS 7.x OS image with Metrowerks MetroTRK (target resident kernel) support

- UIQ software development kit

- Serial cable for on-device application debugging
