Tapwave, Inc. Chooses Motorola i.MX to Power New Mobile Entertainment Products

Applications processor and Bluetooth™ wireless technology from Motorola help drive down development time for new handheld category

AUSTIN, Texas - May 6, 2003 - Tapwave, Inc., a consumer electronics company headquartered in Mountain View, CA, has selected the i.MX family of media extension applications processors from Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT) to power a new category of handheld products. Tapwave's new products are designed to entertain users and help them manage their busy lifestyles. The first of these products is expected to hit the market later this year with multi-media features and the ability to wirelessly interact with other devices for game play and personal information sharing.

"We're partnering with Motorola because of its market leadership in the handheld space," said Tapwave, Inc. CEO and Founder Peng Lim. "The i.MX processor has the best balance of performance, battery life and a high degree of integrated features, along with the ability to drive the dynamic applications we plan to offer."

"Tapwave is raising the bar for creating exciting, advanced graphics and entertainment in a handheld device," said Omid Tahernia, Motorola's vice president of the Wireless Messaging Systems Division. "Tapwave's leadership team has identified a truly untapped market segment that matches perfectly with our ability to help companies get to market fast with innovative multi-media products that deliver great battery life performance."

Motorola's i.MX and DragonBall™ processors, market leaders in the handheld applications processing segment, offer developers a wide array of integrated multimedia and communications features enabling exceptionally quick development time to prototype and manufacture. The i.MX supports high quality graphics and video ideal for entertainment, education, business and lifestyle management applications like those featured in the new category of devices from Tapwave.

The i.MX family offers efficient power management to help manufacturers provide consumers a rich experience via rapid, enhanced graphics and digital audio. Design and manufacturing techniques, including a unique architecture and "doze" and "sleep" modes in the i.MX processors translate to less power consumption even for advanced PDA applications. In addition, other integrated features of the i.MX processors, such as the multimedia extensions and video port, allow manufacturers to use fewer components in their wireless devices, reducing system design time and costs.
