Pen&Internet announces commercial release of ritePen advanced handwriting recognition utility for Tablet PC

Improved handwriting recognition and pen functionality provides users with new level of productivity

Sunnyvale, Calif., May 6, 2003 – Pen&Internet™, LLC today announced the immediate commercial availability of ritePen™ advanced handwriting recognition utility that improves the core UI functionality and handwriting recognition for the Tablet PC and other Windows-based pen computers.

With ritePen, users can write on the full screen and their handwriting is converted into text and automatically entered into target applications. When running on the Tablet PC, ritePen’s handwriting recognition engine automatically fuses with the embedded Windows XP Tablet PC Edition handwriting recognition and provides users with improved recognition results.

ritePen additionally includes advanced pen functionality that enables easy pen manipulation of application windows, seamless navigation between windows, and automatic discrimination between on-screen navigation tools and input areas.

"Mobile professionals and consumers are looking for new applications that improve the Tablet PC’s handwriting recognition and general usability,” said Geoff Walker, industry analyst in mobile computing and Technology Editor for Pen Computing Magazine. “ritePen is a powerful application that gives users both enhanced handwriting recognition and an advanced pen utility tool which intelligently switches between entering data, navigation and manipulation of the desktop interface."

Key product features:

* Transparent text input: Instantly converts English language handwriting into text for input into any Windows application.

* High-quality electronic ink: Write with smooth ink.

* Seamless stylus navigation and manipulation: Allows seamless pen navigation and manipulation of application windows and their on-screen tools, including pull-down menus and scroll bars.

* Intelligent identification of protected input areas: Automatic identification of toolbars, navigation bars, control elements and input areas.

* Full screen writing: Writing can be done anywhere on the screen.

* Natural editing gestures: ritePen comes with intuitive, easy-to-learn and reliably recognized gestures for basic editing operations.

* Alternative answers listed: Pop-up lists of handwriting recognition alternatives are instantly available for every word in a phrase, further improving handwriting recognition accuracy.

“Following an intensive development effort, we are excited to offer Tablet PC, pen tablet and laptop users improved handwriting recognition and easy-to-use utilities that allow for full screen writing," said Dr. Leonid Kitainik, general manager of Pen&Internet. “The commercial release of ritePen provides greater productivity to mobile users and gives them additional flexibility on mobile pen-based devices.”
