PalmGear Announces Partnership with Cellmania to Bring Palm OS Software to Palm Powered Cellphone Owners through Wireless Carriers
The Agreement Also Allows Cellmania to Distribute Titles through Online
Retailers & Its Own Website
NASHVILLE, TN (May 6, 2003) Cellmania, a leading provider of mobile
business software for carriers and enterprises, and PalmGear, the world's
largest and oldest Palm OS-based consumer marketspace, today announced a
partnership designed to broaden the distribution channels for Palm OS
software on Palm PoweredT cellphones. The agreement authorizes Cellmania
to choose from thousands of possible cellphone-ready applications in
PalmGear's catalog for distribution through wireless carriers, online
retailers and the Cellmania website. Over-the-air download of Palm OS
titles through wireless carriers will be a first.
The partnership leverages PalmGear's relationships with over 14,000 Palm OS
developers and its library of more than 17,000 titles for Palm-based
devices including handhelds and cellphones. As the largest and most
complete source for PalmOS applications, PalmGear will give Cellmania
instant access to cellphone-ready titles in every category ranging from
games to productivity, travel, and eBooks.
"We have an extensive catalog of mobile applications ranging from WAP to
J2ME and Pocket PC that wireless operators and e-commerce sites can offer
to their customers and now we can offer the great solutions for the Palm OS
platform as well," said Ronjon Nag, CEO and co-founder of Cellmania. "This
partnership with PalmGear allows us to make the entire universe of Palm OS
applications available to our partners. It's the most efficient way for us
to meet demand from the Palm OS community."
Cellmania has agreements with leading wireless operators and online
retailers who use Cellmania's infrastructure software for provisioning
cellphones. These same Cellmania technologies will allow carriers and
online retailers to download Palm OS applications to their customers' phone
equipment and, for carriers, automatically add each purchase to the
subscriber's monthly phone bill.
"This relationship between Cellmania and PalmGear will help strengthen the
overall Palm Economy by making it easier for owners of Palm Powered
cellphones to find and purchase add-on applications wirelessly," said Larry
Berkin, Director, Developer Marketing for PalmSource, Inc., the maker of
the Palm OS platform.
"Every distribution outlet that is added for Palm OS applications not only
benefits consumers and the Palm platform as a whole, but also gives
developers a new sales channel for their products," said Ryan Wuerch,
president and chief executive officer of PalmGear.com. "Given Cellmania's
agreements with major wireless carriers around the world, and provisioning
agreements with online retailers such as Office Depot, as well as
Cellmania's ability to draw customers to Cellmania's own website, this
partnership opens important new revenue opportunities for both developers
and the vendors who will be promoting their products."
