RALEIGH, N.C.--May 6, 2003--
Summus to resell Magus Soft interactive games in North America for QUALCOMM's BREW(TM) and J2ME(TM)-enabled mobile devices
Summus, Inc. (USA) (OTCBB: SUMU), a developer of applications and information processing tools that optimize the wireless multimedia experience, today announced it has reached an agreement with Magus Soft (Beijing) Co., Ltd., a leading developer and publisher of mobile entertainment applications, to resell Magus Soft games for wireless devices in the Americas.
According to the terms of the agreement, Summus will act as Magus Soft's primary distribution channel in the Americas and will also make available Summus' BlueFuel(TM) solution for application enhancement. BlueFuel is Summus' Superfast, Superthin(TM) mobile platform tailored for efficient and easy interaction with information in the mobile environment. As part of the agreement, Summus will act as a reseller of Magus Soft games in the Americas and Magus Soft will promote and market certain Summus applications in China. The companies will focus on Magus Soft games developed for QUALCOMM's BREW platform, as well as those for the Java 2 platform, Micro Edition (J2ME).
"Our partnership with Magus Soft validates our technology leadership and ability to provide an effective sales channel," said Bjorn Jawerth, CEO of Summus. "We believe our partnership with Magus Soft helps solidify our position as a leader in the mobile applications space. The combination of Magus Soft's gaming creativity, combined with the BlueFuel platform, will raise the performance bar for the next generation of mobile games."
"Partnering with Summus is a natural next step toward developing a global reach for mobile device users. Wireless gaming equates to many customers and large revenues according to a number of research analysts. The number of total U.S. unique wireless gamers will climb from nearly 7.0 million in 2002 to 71.2 million in 2007, according to IDC. Strategy Analytics believes that downloadable games will be the fastest-growing consumer application in 2003, generating $2 billion in worldwide revenue by the end of the year. In a recent report, Informa Media Group reported that revenue from wireless gaming subscriptions would reach $1 billion in 2005, rising to $9 billion in 2010. They believe that nearly half of those revenues will come from the Asia Pacific region.
