Telefonica de Peru To Provide Wireless Payphone Service In Lima Using Airspan Wireless DSL Technology

BOCA RATON, Fla.--May 6, 2003-- More Than 1,200 Payphones in Lima Will Be Equipped with Airspan's AS4000 Equipment

Airspan Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq:AIRN), a leading worldwide provider of fixed wireless DSL networks, today announced that Telefonica de Peru will utilize its Wireless DSL technology to provide wireless payphone service at more than 1,200 payphone locations on the outskirts of the capital city of Lima.

Telefonica de Peru already provides high-speed Internet and wireless voice services to small-to-medium enterprises throughout Lima, including the Cerro Grande, San Juan, San Jose, Vitrate, Pachacamac, El Retablo and Washington regions. The payphones will serve users in the outlying areas of Lima, where little or no traditional telecommunications infrastructure exists.

Airspan's relationship with Telefonica de Peru is through an OEM agreement with Ericsson. Ericsson will install the Airspan equipment and provide after-sales service and support. "We're pleased at how our partnership with Ericsson has caused this customer relationship to flourish, enabling Telefonica de Peru to continue expanding its original (April 2001) deployment of Airspan equipment," said Julio Izique, Airspan's senior director of sales for Latin America.

This deployment is part of a multi-year agreement with Telefonica, S.A. of Spain, which includes a three-phase agreement valued up to $3 million through the end of 2005.

With more than 65 million customers throughout Latin America, Telefonica, S.A. continues its commitment to bring high-speed Internet services to small businesses throughout the region and this expansion helps to solidify Airspan's position as Telefonica's preferred fixed wireless equipment provider.
