Adobe Reader for Palm OS, Version 3.0 Now Available
Software Extends Reach of Adobe PDF; Now Supports Wider Range of Content for Mobile Professionals
SAN JOSE, Calif.--May 26, 2003--Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE), the leader in network publishing, today announced the immediate availability of Adobe(R) Reader(R) for Palm OS(R), version 3.0, a free software application that allows mobile professionals and consumers the flexibility to read, navigate and print Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) files on Palm Powered(TM) handhelds. The latest version adds support for viewing additional Adobe PDF content, such as photographs and eBooks with added security, and provides users the ability to print over a wireless network.
Adobe Reader for Palm OS, version 3.0 extends the value of the award-winning Adobe Acrobat(R) 6.0 product line by offering business professionals across the enterprise freedom to access Adobe PDF documents anytime, anywhere on a Palm Powered handheld. The product also builds on the established Adobe Reader franchise. The company has distributed over half-a-billion copies of free Adobe Reader desktop software since its 1993 introduction.
"Adobe Reader for Palm OS delivers an industry-leading document viewing solution for Palm Powered devices that enables mobile professionals to enjoy visually rich content beyond the desktop," said Larry Berkin, director of developer marketing for PalmSource, Inc. "By continuing to extend the product's capabilities and the efficacy of PDF, Adobe is providing greater value to our corporate and consumer customers."
For the first time, Adobe Reader for Palm OS users will have the ability to access a wider range of Adobe PDF files on Palm Powered devices, extending beyond business documents to include Photoshop(R) Album slide shows and eBooks with added Adobe Digital Rights Management security. In addition, the latest version now provides the capability to print PDF files wirelessly over the Internet using Electronics for Imaging, Inc.'s (EFI) PrintMe(TM) network. The EFI(R) PrintMe network allows users to print to enabled printers and fax machines from handhelds without requiring cables, print drivers or a complex network setup.
About Adobe Reader for Palm OS
Adobe Reader for Palm OS, two million copies of which have been distributed to date, allows users to read, navigate and search PDF documents such as product manuals, reference guides, photographs, eBooks, and other graphically rich content in a format re-flowed to fit the width of a smaller handheld screen. Adobe PDF files created using the Acrobat 6.0 product line, Adobe InDesign(R) 2.0, Adobe PageMaker(R) 7.0, and Adobe FrameMaker(R) 7.0 will offer an optimal reading experience on Palm Powered handhelds because they are automatically tagged with information on page structure and organization. This allows for easier and more reliable text re-flow on a handheld device.
The process of preparing and transferring an Adobe PDF file for viewing on a Palm Powered handheld is simple and fast. After launching the Adobe Reader for Palm OS desktop application, the user drags and drops a PDF document onto it. When the next synchronization is performed, the PDF file is transferred to the viewing application on the handheld. Using the device, the user can then launch the Adobe Reader application and select the desired content.
