CenterBeam Announces RIM/GoodLink and Pocket PC Phone Mobile Services

CenterBeam's Suite of Mobile Services Accelerates Information Technology To the Speed of Business

SAN JOSE, Calif., May 28 - Today, CenterBeam announced it has expanded its suite of mobile services to include RIM/GoodLink and Pocket PC Phone devices. For CenterBeam customers, these devices can be seamlessly and inexpensively integrated to deliver anytime, anywhere access to critical business information. These new services cost $45 per user to provision and $15 per user per month thereafter.

RIM/GoodLink and Pocket PC Phone service are the two most recent additions to CenterBeam's comprehensive suite of mobile services. These services range from traditional dial-up remote access to support for secure access from Internet Cafes around the world and wireless networking from the ever growing number of public hotspots.

Speed: A Competitive Edge in Business

"Businesses use speed to sharpen a competitive edge. Businesses want to find prospects faster, close deals faster and ship products faster. Every business wants to move faster, but only CenterBeam clients have easy and inexpensive access to the full range of integrated and secure mobile services that accelerates information technology to the speed of business," said Kevin Francis, CenterBeam chief executive officer and president.

Tarari: CenterBeam Enables Anytime, Anywhere Collaboration

"Tarari is about speed. We're building breakthrough technologies that will increase the performance of network devices, servers, and software," said Randy Smerik, Tarari president and chief executive officer. "Great ideas happen whether we're at our desks or not. These ideas fuel a collaborative process that, thanks to CenterBeam, is untethered from the particulars of where and when these ideas happen."

Gartner: "Outsourced Mobility is a Classic Make-versus-Buy Decision"

"More mid-sized businesses are starting to investigate how mobility can benefit their organizational processes," said Robert Hoyle Brown, principal analyst, Gartner Research. "But building an integrated and secure mobile IT infrastructure from scratch is a complex and time-consuming proposition for both large and smaller enterprises alike. Buying mobile infrastructure through outsourcing instead is a proposition that mid-size enterprises should consider."

If an enterprise wanted to build a RIM/GoodLink and Pocket PC Phone solution, it would require at least $60,000 in capital investment, not including staff costs related to development, testing, integration and support. CenterBeam customers who want this service will pay $45 per user for provisioning and $15 per user per month thereafter. Airtime for the devices is billed separately by the carrier.

CenterBeam: Making It Easy to Subscribe to New Services

To acquire CenterBeam new mobile services, customers only need to make one telephone call. For RIM/GoodLink service, the user receives a RIM device that is constantly synchronized with their Microsoft Outlook file using GoodLink server software over the nationwide Cingular network. CenterBeam manages every aspect of provisioning the service, from the acquisition to account set- up. The user simply opens the box and starts using the device.

Similarly, CenterBeam customers who already have a Pocket PC Phone can place one telephone call to CenterBeam and within an hour, their Pocket PC Phone will be synchronized to their Microsoft Outlook file.

CENTERBEAM'S COMPREHENSIVE SUITE OF INTEGRATED AND SECURE MOBILE SERVICES

Today's announcement of new RIM / GoodLink and Pocket PC Phone services integrates into CenterBeam's comprehensive suite of mobile services. These services include the following:

Wireless LAN Connectivity

The CenterBeam Service was architected on Wireless LAN. This technology gives business people the freedom to take their notebook computer from their desk to conference rooms to wherever in the office they need to do their work. Wireless LAN technology also means that workers can access the rapidly growing networks of public "hotspots," sites that offer wireless LAN connectivity.

Broadband Connectivity

As cable and DSL broadband connections become more common in the home and hotels, workers can use them, in combination with Cisco Virtual Private Network software to connect to corporate information services.

Dial-Up Access

When broadband and wireless connections aren't available, workers can easily connect their computers to their corporate information services over dial-up connections using UUNET's global IP network, the world's largest dial- up network.

Business Centers and Internet Cafes

CenterBeam also gives business people the ability to access their corporate information resources even when they don't have their computer with them. Using any computer connected to the Internet, such as workstations at hotel business centers or Internet Cafes, CenterBeam customers use Microsoft Outlook Web Access to send and receive their email, check their calendar and make appointments, access their contact file and conduct their business as if they were at their own computer.
