Motorola and Metrowerks Accelerate Smart Handheld Development

Metrowerks' CodeWarrior™ Development System for Motorola's i.MXL Applications Processor Speeds Development of Handheld Devices Based on ARM® Technology

AUSTIN, Texas - June 3, 2003 - Developers of smart handheld devices now receive Motorola, Inc.'s (NYSE: MOT) Semiconductor Products Sector (SPS) high performance, low-power applications processor as part of Metrowerks' advanced CodeWarrior Development System for i.MXL. The release bundles the Motorola, i.MXL processor with Metrowerks' comprehensive CodeWarrior toolkit to help speed time to market by providing the tools developers need to begin product creation in one convenient, cost effective system.

The offering helps to free developers from the time consuming tasks of synchronizing software versions and managing multiple applications and interfaces. Developers for devices ranging from PDAs to smart phones, MP3 players to GPS systems, may now spend more time managing their project and less time managing their tools.

CodeWarrior Development System for i.MXL offers developers a fully integrated development environment to design, debug and deploy solutions for handheld devices, all from one graphical user interface. Working at top efficiency without the need to switch between various application windows, the offering includes a tightly integrated set of tools, as well as the i.MXL applications development system target hardware, the comprehensive CodeWarrior Development Studio for ARM® Embedded Systems 1.2, and the i.MXL QuickStart. Also included is access to Motorola's dedicated driver download website for qualified O/S licensees.

"Reducing development time by integrating the tools you need in one cost-effective package is instrumental for stimulating new and innovative i.MX designs," said Omid Tahernia, vice president and general manager, Wireless Mobile Systems Division, Semiconductor Products Sector, Motorola. "As the latest addition to the best-selling DragonBall™ family of applications processors which enjoys the largest share of the handheld market space, developers now have an opportunity to develop compelling i.MX solutions rapidly, and tap the tremendous market that exists for PDAs, wireless PDAs, feature phones, smartphones and wireless entertainment devices, worldwide."

"Metrowerks and SPS have partnered to deliver a powerful solution that addresses the specific needs of ARM technology developers working on next generation handheld devices," said David Clifton, marketing vice president for Metrowerks. "The offering reflects Metrowerks' history of excellence in development tools, as well as our deep understanding of the very latest Motorola silicon."
