British company scores secure end-to-end SMS communication


June 06, 2003 - "Virtually impenetrable" software protects SMS text messages.

Silicon Village today launched the world first service independent end-to-end solution for sending secure SMS messages.

The new encryption application provides secure end-to-end data transmission for SMS messages on the Series 60 and Symbian platforms.

Developed by expert, Dr. David Reynolds, Fortress SMS is a phone based application that sends encrypted SMS messages and decrypts coded SMS messages when received.

"Fortress SMS is designed for a growing number of security conscious SMS users seeking to protect their sensitive messages from interception and snooping, in an easy to use, simple and effective fashion" said Tony King, a partner in development firm, Silicon Village . "With an intuitive, easy to use interface, users of Fortress SMS will be able to transmit and receive strongly encrypted messages, directly from their phones using the U.S Government Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) "Rijndael" algorithm.

Fortress SMS users can create and read encrypted messages directly on their Series 60 smart phones without the need for an operator provided solution. The messages are stored in an encrypted form and password protected, so protecting them from casual or determined prying.The potential applications of Fortress, in conjunction with message concatenation include, M-commerce, Patient messaging, Legal notes , Secure database access and e-voting amongst others.

Fortress SMS features AES compliant encryption, encrypted message storage, long (concatenated) message support, multiple recipient support, integrity checking of encrypted messages and Unicode character set support.
