Borland Sets Pace for Innovation in Mobile Market

New Product Offerings to Accelerate Mobile Development Across the Enterprise

SAN FRANCISCO--June 10, 2003--Borland Software Corporation (Nasdaq:BORL) announced today the launch of Borland(R) Mobile Studio, Borland(R) Enterprise Studio for Mobile and Borland(R) JBuilder(R) 9 Mobile Edition.

Both studio suites offer mobile productivity enhancements for organizations developing in Java(TM) and C++ languages. Borland Mobile Studio is aimed at application development for mobile devices while Borland Enterprise Studio for Mobile further extends this capability across the enterprise. Borland JBuilder 9 Mobile Edition is specifically for developers targeting mobile devices for the Java 2 Platform, Mobile Edition (J2ME(TM)).

IDC's current forecast for the mobile development and deployment market calls for a 2001-2006 compound annual growth rate of 57 percent, increasing the market from just under $87.8 million in 2001 to $836.1 million in 2006.(a)

"We are focused on producing better software, faster by reducing the complexity associated with mobile application development," said Jean Pierre LeBlanc, vice president and general manager of mobile and C++ solutions at Borland. "With these latest products, Java developers in particular gain mobile application lifecycle management capabilities with Borland Enterprise Studio for Mobile and advanced J2ME development with JBuilder 9 Mobile Edition as part of Mobile Studio."

The new mobile products also integrate the latest software development kits (SDKs) from Nokia and Sony Ericsson. For further information, visit http://www.borland.com/mobile.

These product advances reflect the work of Borland with leading mobile companies such as Nokia and Sony Ericsson and Symbian to address the needs of a growing mutual customer-base.

"Nokia, as the world's leading mobile player, is an essential target for any developer creating mobile applications. As demand for mobile applications grows, delivering a compelling tools offering to developers is extremely important to shortening the development process," commented Lee Epting, vice president, developer operations, Nokia Mobile Software. "Borland's commitment to simplifying enterprise mobile application development is a key component to the success of everyone involved."

"Borland is widely recognized for its track record in accelerating enterprise application development," said Rikko Sakaguchi, senior vice president and head of corporate function applications and content development at Sony Ericsson. "Consumers are able to benefit from a broader spectrum of applications for their everyday needs fueling long-term growth in the mobile market."

"Making mobile application development as simple and as fast as possible will further drive the creation of a mass market for phones based on Symbian OS, the industry standard operating system for advanced mobile phones," commented David Wood, executive vice president, partnering, at Symbian. "Borland is helping to empower developer innovation and to drive the success of organizations that implement mobile solutions."
