Infowave Announces Availability of Wireless Email Solutions for Symbian Devices
Infowave Ships Symmetry Express for Sony Ericsson P800 and Nokia 3650 and 7650 Devices
VANCOUVER, British Columbia--June 12, 2003--Infowave Software (TSX:IW), a provider of wireless software for mobile operators, corporations and individuals announced today the availability of its Infowave Symmetry suite of wireless e-mail solutions for Symbian's advanced, open, standard operating system for data-enabled mobile phones now shipping in volume worldwide. The Infowave Symmetry solution suite allows individuals and companies to access their personal and corporate e-mail from a range of wireless PDA's and smartphone devices.
Commercial availability of Infowave's Symbian OS solutions begins with the launch of Symmetry Express, Infowave's wireless solution for personal e-mail access including POP3 and Hotmail. Symmetry Express now supports both Symbian 6.1 and Symbian 7.0 devices and provides the ability to instantly deliver new e-mail messages without any user intervention. Available through Infowave's mobile operator partners such as T-Mobile International, Symmetry Express is one of the first wireless e-mail solutions in the marketplace to support Symbian OS.
"Adding Symbian OS support to our Symmetry wireless e-mail solutions offers a new level of flexibility for our mobile operator partners and their subscribers," said Bill Tam, Executive VP of Sales and Marketing at Infowave. "Mobile operators like T-Mobile recognize that their customers are looking for a choice of form factors and styles when it comes to next generation devices. In extending our best of breed wireless e-mail solutions for Symbian OS based phones, Infowave now delivers the broadest range of support for smart devices. We continue to set the benchmark for software-based wireless e-mail solutions."
A member of Symbian's Catalyst Program, Infowave has been working in close co-operation with Symbian for several months to develop and market solutions for Symbian's mobile phone manufacturer partners, corporate customers and mobile network operators. This 'by invitation' program offers support to key development partners bringing Symbian OS based solutions to market.
"The Symbian Catalyst Program was a tremendous resource for our development efforts at Infowave. The Symbian team was instrumental in accelerating the time-to-market of our Symmetry solution for the T-Mobile International launch," remarked Bill Tam.
"Innovative developers like Infowave are building on Symbian OS to provide compelling new mobile capabilities for smartphone users. Infowave and Symbian are enabling users to choose both the device and applications that best suit their needs. Infowave's Symmetry suite of wireless e-mail solutions are a great example of how Symbian OS gives smartphone users freedom of choice. Symbian is delighted to have worked with Infowave to bring their solution to Symbian OS devices with T-Mobile International", said Geoff Preston, Technology Operations Director.
