DILBERT COMICS NOW AVAILABLE ON YOUR MOBILE PHONE
First Time the Wildly Popular Dilbert Comics Available for Wireless Users
(June 10, 2003) PLEASANTON, CA--- FunMail Inc., a leading provider of MMS services, announced today it will be releasing this month a “Best of Dilbert” comics service for mobile color phones. The Dilbert service will let users receive a series of the funniest Dilbert comic strips, and store them in a virtual “archive” for viewing anytime they wish.
“Dilbert is a huge character – everyone loves Dilbert. Dilbert also has huge name recognition and appeal to both men and women – basically anyone who has ever worked in an office relates to Dilbert,” said FunMail CEO Adam Lavine. “These people are the early adopters of the latest, coolest color phones, making The Best of Dilbert service a big winner for operators rolling out MMS services and want a fun service to run on the new color phones.”
The Dilbert Comics Service is built on the FunMagic MMS platform, which enables rapid deployment of customized, content-driven MMS services. The Magic MMS platform is up and running with some of the world’s largest mobile operators, including Vodafone D2, o2 and Globe Telecom. The Best Of Dilbert Comics service will be available for Qualcomm’s BREW operator system handsets, as well as for general MMS color handsets. A Java version is planned for later in the year.
The BREW version of the FunMail Dilbert Comics service uses an innovative and fun interface that lets users control an interactive Dilbert character using their mobile phone keypad. Users can manipulate Dilbert to select that day’s comic, view archived comics, read Dilbert news or get Dilbert help. The application has the following features:
- an In Box that has their latest comic,
- a File Cabinet “archive” that holds previously viewed comics
- a Help System that explains how to use the service.
A Dilbert peer-to-peer messaging service powered by the FunMagic MMS Platform is also available, enabling users to send picture messages and MMS Dilbert messages based on the text they enter into their phone. FunMail’s Magic MMS platform selects the best Dilbert image or animation from an archive, combines it with the text message, formats the MMS for the receiving phone, and sends it to the recipient.
