WebEyeAlert Web-Based Surveillance Technology Used in School Emergency Exercise

CHELMSFORD, Mass. & LITTLETON, Colo.--June 12, 2003--A participant in the "SOS" Littleton Initiative, WebEyeAlert demonstrated strong capabilities of its advanced Web and wireless video surveillance technology for assisting authorities in emergency management.

The Littleton Initiative is a joint effort of various law enforcement communities and technology partners. The effort, spearheaded by the Littleton (Colorado) Public School District, Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-CO), and Xybernaut Corporation, has as the goal the development of baseline Standards of School Safety (SOS).

A full-scale school emergency management demonstration was conducted at the Littleton Elementary School in May 2003. The purpose of the exercise was to identify the best practices and technology solutions for assisting first-responders during school emergencies, especially with the use of digital mapping and archiving of critical operational information necessary to initiate tactical intervention, rescue, and recovery operations at multiple sites.

A WebEyeAlert DVR+ server was deployed inside the building and connected to CCTV cameras inside the school. During the exercise, the server transmitted video images captured by the cameras through a wireless network, providing remote live viewing to networked PCs and Xybernaut MA-5 wearable computer units. The security officers were able to view real-time videos from a browser interface, and control the PTZ cameras through the onscreen control panel. Emergency personnel were able to monitor the activities and investigate events by retrieving recorded video files without delay.

WebEyeAlert's remote surveillance solution provides the necessary technology needed to obtain updated information for accurate event assessing and effective action planning. WebEyeAlert's technology is viable for immediate implementation.
