Complete Wireless Java Offer by MATERNA
Route planning, newspaper reading or fun game - Wireless Java has a lot to offer
Dortmund, June 12, 2003 - MATERNA realize a new Wireless Java portfolio. This includes, among other things, the internally developed Wireless Application Server, which is operated in the TÜV-certified data processing center in Dortmund. In addition, MATERNA will offer numerous Mobile Java applications, such as Map 24 route planner, Newsreader for the German network operator O2, mobile newspaper or field service control system per mobile terminal. With the download service for games of the Elkware GmbH, MATERNA will show how Mobile Java services can be simply accounted for by using Premium SMS, IVR or M-Pay.
With the Anny Way Wireless Application Server, MATERNA sets its sights on a platform, which easily enables an Over-The-Air (OTA) download of Wireless Java applications to each mobile Java-compatible device. Thus, MATERNA plays an important role between network carriers, service and content providers as well as users. The content provider sets the applications on the platform (Content Provider Portal) and gets them supplied in accordance with the selected business models. The network operator or service provider can acquire the Wireless Application Server or let it be operated by MATERNA. He allows the user to fall back upon a large supply of high-quality contents in a portal (Mobile User Portal) and thus customize his terminal.
Large variety with Java services
Apart from the development of an efficient platform, MATERNA has implemented a framework with its Anny Way Java Content Mobilizer, which allows the generation of various Java services. The services shown in Hanover will include, among other things, the mobile route planner: with this service, the start and destination address will be directly entered in the mobile telephone. Then, the user will have to choose whether he wants to get around by car, truck or on foot. Afterwards, the route inquiry will be transferred in online mode to the Map24 server. There, the inquired route will be calculated and then sent back to the mobile phone. The route description takes place in the quality used by Map24. A graphical representation of the distance covered is also possible. For each station of the route, map material can be requested and illustrated on the terminal device.
Another application is the Newsreader. It shows particularly and clearly the various advantages of the Java services: The up-to-dateness of the content can be guaranteed by the content provider, as he can always promptly make the most current information available via a Web interface. The transferred messages are not subject to a restriction of characters - in addition, color or black-and-white pictures can be embedded without any problem. The user himself has the possibility of configuring the desired news channels via the client of his mobile terminal. In addition, special advantages arise from the fact that the Newsreader contents are made available offline on the mobile terminal, thus keeping the online presence costs low.
Simplified billing of services
On the basis of the games download, MATERNA shows how simple the billing of Java services can be. The customer sends, for instance, a short message to a specific number while ordering a Java game by Premium SMS. A registration or enabling is not necessary, as the fees are directly withhold over the wireless phone bill or the prepaid card. The order code of the Java games is indicated in the SMS text. It had been taken by the customer from e.g. an ad, an Internet site or a product advertising. As a reply to the Premium-SMS message, the user receives a text or a WAP-Push message with the URL for game downloads. If the user activates this link, the terminal device will then automatically establish a WAP or GPRS connection, download the application and store it in the device. Afterwards, the game can be played as often as desired from the telephone memory.
Further billing options include the order per IVR (0900 number) or via M-Pay. In this case, the download requirement is made in the Web. The prospective customer receives then an access code by SMS. He enters this code in the Web before being allowed to download the desired game.
