Siemens Mobile Acceleration invests in Rock Mobile, a new mobile music venture targeting Greater China
Siemens Mobile Acceleration (smac) announced today its investment in Rock
Mobile Corporation, a Taiwan based start-up company providing mobile music
services. Rock Mobile offers easy access to music related entertainment over
mobile phones.
Rock Mobile offers consumers a new user experience via mobile phones.
"StarVoice" allows users to send greetings to friends using tailor made
voice messages of their favorite artists. By signing up for the "Song
Express" service, subscribers can easily sample new releases and send song
dedications to other users on the network. Under Rock Mobile's "YOYORing"
and "YOYOLook" service brands, consumers can download ring-tones and logos,
choosing from an industry-wide catalogue of both monotone and polyphonic
ring-tones and a wide range of logos and pictures of both Chinese and
international artists. Rock Mobile's services can be accessed through
multiple channels including SMS, WAP, WWW, and IVR (Interactive Voice
Response), thus avoiding potential bottlenecks in reaching 250 million
mobile subscribers in the Greater China region.
Rock Mobile is a spin-off from Rock Music Group, the leading publisher of
Chinese language music and video content. The company has signed
distribution agreements with all major record labels and music publishers,
including Rock, BMG, EMI, Sony Music, Universal and Warner, ensuring a
balanced portfolio of the most popular domestic and international
repertoires. Based on its proprietary Multiple Access Service Platform
(MASP) and extensive catalogue of premium content, Rock Mobile provides a
turn-key solution for content owners, network operators, handset vendors,
and media entities.
Joined by Acer Technology Ventures in providing this first round of funding,
Siemens Mobile Acceleration has committed a comprehensive service package to
speed up Rock Mobile's penetration of the Mainland China market. Siemens
Mobile will preset Rock Mobile's service link on selected new phones,
sponsor several Rock Mobile events and promote Rock Mobile's services on its
product packaging and in its retail outlets throughout China.
"We are honored to partner strategically with Siemens Mobile Acceleration.
Their investment will speed up Rock Mobile's China business expansion," said
Joshua Maa, CEO of Rock Mobile Corporation, "and by this partnering we take
a big step forward in forming a winning mobile entertainment alliance of
content providers, handset vendors, and mobile operators to provide
consumers throughout Greater China with outstanding mobile entertainment
services."
"It is the mission of Siemens Mobile Acceleration to spot and support
start-ups with the most promising mobile business ideas. Ring-tones are the
top revenue earning mobile data application on 2G and 2.5G networks and we
believe that advanced music services, such as downloads of video and music
clips, will play a key role in stimulating the demand for 3G services," Dr.
Dietrich Ulmer, CEO of Siemens Mobile Acceleration, said "With the
distribution rights for the top-selling artists in the region and expertise
in marketing music to consumers, Rock Mobile is ideally positioned to
address this market opportunity."
