Epson Develops Ultra-Miniature, Energy-Saving Mobile USB Controller
Tokyo - Seiko Epson Corporation ("Epson") has developed a new USB
On-The-Go controller with a power function* for VBUS control. Named the
S1R72015, this powerful and compact new chip is intended for use in a
variety of mobile information equipment, cellular phones, digital cameras,
digital video cameras, external storage devices, and so forth.
Volume production and shipping will start in September 2003. Plans call
for initial monthly production of 100,000 pieces and shipments totaling
400,000 units by the end of the calendar year. The sample price is 1,700
yen.
The S1R72015 is based on the S1R72005, which is currently in production.
The new USB On-The-Go (OTG) controller has been scaled down even further
by integrating peripheral circuitry, making it ideal for mobile devices,
and is compliant with On-The-Go, Version 1 standard (a supplement to the
USB 2.0 specification).
Posssible uses will be among mobile devices: Image data, call signal with
melodies and address book data transfer, Image data printout and data
storage.
