esmertec and Apeera collaborate to deliver an end-to-end solution to enhance management of J2ME applications on mobile devices Zurich, Switzerland, and Paris, France, June 10, 2003 - esmertec ag, the leader in Java™ software and technologies for mass-market mobile multimedia phones and embedded devices, and Apeera, today announced a strategic partnership agreement to provide secure and user-friendly mobile Java download capabilities. This agreement follows the worldwide premier demonstration made by the two companies at the Cannes GSM World Congress 2003, in conjunction with Gemplus. esmertec and Apeera will bring to market a unique AMS/JVM solution, which encompasses a best-in-class standard AMS/JVM combined with an integrated Apeera handset plug-in, which can be activated by all mobile operators using Apeera network-based repositories. The secure offline synchronization of the client with the network-based repository gives the following benefits to the end user: • Seamless access to a network based personal repository. • Extension of the handset’s memory via the network with unlimited content storage. • One-click download and launch of remote applications from the AMS. • Smart memory management on the device. • Remote management of application and content life cycle (e.g. remote MIDlet deletion).
